The race you are about to embark upon will be the toughest thing you will ever do. Once you begin, you will have to choose daily and moment-by-moment to remain in the race. There will be no smooth track, no chalk lines to show your lane and course. You will only know that you are on the right path because you are able to move forward and not back, your strength though small will be enough because you are with the Finisher of Faith.
There will be times when the crowd around you will be the watching world and they will jeer your feeble attempts to stay the course, at these times you must rise above and hold fast to the truth that you began this race with. At other times you will have to bow to the crowds, they will be veterans of the race, finishers of their own races- and you will have to submit to their instruction if you want to continue on the paths of humility.
So, now, before you begin this race, define your truth. Draw it out like a road map from your heart to your mind and let it settle into your spirit and being. What is your truth? Christ died for you. You live because of and for him. The road you are on, the race you run, the hardships you face are good for you. Christ intends to give you a hope and a future with every obstacle. The truth is that every lowest point you hit is still higher than the one before, the path is always upwards even when it appears you are descending to new depths. The darkness around you is not all consuming, is not complete because you are the light within it. The darkness is retreating before you and you are leaving a trail of light that brings glory and honor to Christ Jesus.
It is your choice to walk or to run, to move or to be still. It is your choice to listen to the voice beside you that says this is the way, now walk in it. It is your choice to hold onto the baton of truth and carry it with you or to let it slip from your fingers and fade from your mind. It is always your choice. That is the ultimate truth. It is your choice a choice to continue or to fall away. The race you are embarking upon is a race to each new choice in Christ.
What are you going to do? Are you going to begin this race with misgivings and doubt or are you going to embrace the challenge of believing that God will provide the way to complete it that will satisfy His desires as well as your own?
The starting gun has sounded the beginning of the race. Your time has come to step off the starting block and begin.
Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
