Deep in the pit of your stomach a fluttery feeling makes it hard to breathe.
Filling your heart is a softness that spreads to your brain. Clear thought is nearly impossible.
An ache, that can only be described as excruciating and wonderful all at the same time, floods over you.
Eyes don’t look the same. They are transformed into communicators of many unspoken words – words that, if said right then, would break the spell. It’s as if, there, revealed only to you at that moment, is the true depth of the other. You become lost in an intoxicating gaze.
And all you want is for that person to never stop looking at you, never stop holding you. It’s as if the world stands still and all that exists are the two of you. Sound is suspended, activity nearby blurs, no one and nothing else matters except the electric current connecting you to that special someone.
Please let it never end. Please don’t ever walk away from me shattering this allure.
Magic. It’s sheer magic.
And we grieve that those moments are few, too far between. We often fear to go there because we know they won’t last, that reality will set in and they will be gone leaving us cold, forsaken, abandoned.
What we don’t realize is that this is a taste of heaven. These delicious, enchanting snatches in time ARE reality - the rest is not. For within us lies an echo of another world - a world not seen by our eyes, only known by our hearts. It’s a place called Eden and there exists there One Whose strength of love is Romance always. He is where we belong – in the Eden soon to be restored, the place prepared for us. And He longs to whisper His love into our hearts, to know that He woos us because He delights in us.
And so, here, on earth, as if a curtain opens for the briefest of times, these mesmerizing minutes take our breath away. They cause us to cry for more, to desire to stay there always. And someday we will…in our home of homes for these same feelings will be our very existence.
Romantic moments should be savored, not avoided, for they are like a kiss in themselves from our Creator, a glimpse of what we will know always in eternity.
“You have ravished my heart, my treasure, my bride. I am overcome by one glance of your eyes, by a single bead of your necklace. How sweet is your love, my treasure, my bride How much better it is than wine! Your perfume is more fragrant than the richest of spices. Your lips, my bride, are as sweet as honey. Yes, honey and cream are under your tongue…”
Spoken by God. Song of Solomon 4:10-11
