St. Luke 18:1: And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint.
James 5:16: The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. As sons of God we must pray because prayer changes things. The most powerful weapon we have as Christians is prayer. There is nothing like a praying man. Of a praying woman is wonderful but the enemy is still after the male seed. The enemy hates prayer and will do all he can do to disrupt it. He will cause you to fall asleep and bring thoughts that should not be into your prayer time with the Lord.
A strong prayer life is essential to a believer because it gives us more power and strengthens our walk with the Lord. There is a saying in our church: No prayer, no power more prayer, more power. Prayer is even more effective when it is done with fasting because more yokes are destroyed and burdens are removed. It behooves us to pray in the morning even if it`s a short prayer because we never know what the day may bring. We must stay prayed up because the powers of darkness seek to destroy our walk with Christ.
The call of intercessory prayer is greater than the call to preach. Preaching can move a congregation but prayer can change generations. In fact, prayer changes things that we don`t even know about. Traps that the enemy has set before you were destroyed because of a praying saint. We must pray always and not faint. For if we faint then our strength is small.
It is time that our prayer lives reflect the lives of the men and women we read about in the bible. I read in a Christian book that James prayed so much that his knees became calloused. He certainly knew the power of prayer. One of my goals is to increase my prayer time with the Lord each week so that I can become more effective as a Christian for his glory. Many of us are so busy that we barely have time to pray. Often times, we would rather do other things than pray but when we do pray, we feel better because we did what was necessary.
While much of the world is spiraling down to a place of pain and sorrow we must do our part to spread the gospel and pray that they would hear and believe. Not only should we pray for the lost, we should pray for each other. Amen.
