A Psalm for Donna

I loved Donna once,
but now affection
is not possible.

Crack
Break
Crumble

Wandering the city streets
in a cloud of mental steam
leaking from the fissures in her broken soul,
my lover is
broken and
unlovable.

Mistrust
Suspicion
Fear

She cannot love herself,
can not remember my embrace.
She may be forever
Untouchable.
Unreachable,
but she will never be
unloved.

Cry
Plead
Pray

Selah.

O Lord,
break the pavement,
cold,
she sleeps on.
Make it soft and warm
tonight.

Grace
Mercy
Healing

Still the winds,
relentless,
that torment her.
Tell her that we love her
just this day.

I loved Donna once.
Answered prayer
may make love possible
again.

Resurrection
Returning
Glory

This sharing makes me want to wrap blankets around the shoulders of all true homeless - roofed or not, to cover them in prayer, to look them in the eye. This is a sobering reminder of the depth of God's Love, of how He provides to us what we alone can not, unjudgmental, even through pain, and hope with outstretched hands. Free of filler words, this poem reads best slowly.

This reminds me of some of the Old Testament stories. Well done and I too, will pray for Donna and you.

Oh, my heart is breaking. What a bittersweet poem! "O Lord, break the pavement, cold, she sleeps on. Make it soft and warm tonight." Powerful image! Wonderful poem!! Thank you.

Wow - this is amazing poetry. Your love really shines through as your heart breaks for her current situation. Lord, please do be with Donna this day. Make Your love palpable to her.
