My Love-Story
I am writing this story because my hope is that someday after I’m gone, my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will read these random thoughts, verses, stories and prayers that I write and will be drawn closer to the God that I love.
The summer I meet your mom, I was working as the wilderness director at Lake Ann Baptist Youth Camp near Traverse City. We got to know each other on a week long river trip in Ontario, Canada. We did go to the same college but she thought I was a jerk. I did not know she was even at my college. The float trip down the Sand River did not help to improve her opinion of me. Jeff Tindell and I did so many wild and crazy deeds on that trip. After the soggy raft trip, I was assigned the job of guiding a three day backpack trip for summer counselors at the camp. Your mom was assigned to help me on this short hike.
One sunny early summer day, we were at a spot on the Betsie River, setting up tents, cooking, camping and enjoying the beautiful summer day. A friend called Tim and I, were throwing wild apples at your mom. She was throwing them back at us. To our surprise we were missing her every time. However, we were getting pounded by her very accurate aim. (We didn’t know she was a college varsity softball player) Do not mess with a woman with a great arm.
Because our male egos could not take the beating, we decided to chase her down and throw her in the river. If you can not win, attack another way. I went one way and Tim came at her from another way. As I ran toward her, she grabbed my head and meant to guide my hard head pass her. Instead, she directed my head into the tree. WOW! POW! I had never been hit so hard. It knocked me to the ground. I was like a boxer who could not get back up. Tears filled my eyes; my head pounded with pain; I had just been pulverized by one very tough young woman and I knew I was in love.
After 22 years of laughter, tears, joys and sorrows- I love her more then every.
Proverbs 18:22 NIV
He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.
