17 He sent a man before them—
Joseph—who was sold as a slave.
18 They hurt his feet with fetters,
He was laid in irons.
19 Until the time that his word came to pass,
The word of the LORD tested him.
20 The king sent and released him,
The ruler of the people let him go free.
21 He made him lord of his house,
And ruler of all his possessions,
Ps 105:17-21
God’s ways are not our ways. His ways are higher than our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Speaks and performs. His word will never fall to the ground. He watches over His word to perform it. Heaven and earth shall pass away but the word of the Lord shall not pass away. The word that has proceeded out of His mouth will not return to Him empty but will accomplish that which He pleases prosper in the thing for which it has been sent.
And so when God gave Joseph a dream which painted greatness before him he was not going back on His plans regardless of circumstances. That dream triggered jealousy amongst Joseph’s brothers and they persecuted him, but Joseph dreamed again. Then they plotted to kill but reason prevailed and they threw him into the pit and later sold him into slavery.
Interestingly God did not tell Joseph that he would be thrown into a pit sold into slavery, sold to Potiphar be falsely accused and end up in prison in a foreign land. He was not told that he would have thirteen years in the wilderness of life before the dream will come true.
God is sovereign over our lives and reserves the right to give us a glimpse of the future without giving us the details. We have to walk by faith daily into our destiny. All we need is little steps of obedience and trust. He will show us the next step to take if we care to ask Him and wait to hear from Him.
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Joseph endured the test, walking in integrity, distinguishing himself in a life of excellence. And God prospered him in whatever he did. Meanwhile, he was being prepared, honed, pruned, and refined to radiate the glory of God. He had to be tried in little things before being given a position of great responsibility.
Have heard from God about your destiny and does your current experience seem a far cry from God’s promise? If so, you are in good company. Learn from Joseph. Amidst persecution and jealousy, dream again. Trust in the Lord. Walk in integrity. Avoid sinning against God. And if you do sin, quickly repent like David and receive forgiveness, forgive yourself and be restored.
In the fullness of time the vision will speak and not delay. It shall not be delayed a single day. God is not a man that He should lie, neither the son of man that He should repent. Has He spoken and shall he not make it good?
Stand to see your salvation. Your test shall bring a testimony. Your barriers and battles will birth a great blessing.
