How Swiftly it All Comes and Goes

As a child, I was numbed, by the length of a year;
(It took Christmas "forever" it seemed.)
NOW the Season arrives with a swiftness
That works well with that "little folks" dream!

NOW the passing of time is a dizzying thing
With a speed that each "older one" knows;
Not assured of tomorrow, we stand there amazed...
"How swiftly it all comes and goes."

It's true! Time moves faster, with the passing of years;
Just a blur...as the older we get;
(With a candle a year on my next birthday cake
Will require a "burning permit"!)

I'll hang on TO dear life, I'll continue my trip
Holding fast through the battles I've known;
Still I'm left with the thought as the years slip away...
"How swiftly it's all come and gone."

How true your words. Time just seems to hurtle past the older we get. If only we had the time to do all that we would like to do, to write as much as we would like to. Your poem is a gentle reminder of age and the passage of time.
