Rachel told, “Astounded I was, when I heard someone say, ‘There are only two books in the grand old book bearing the name of a woman. Just two out of sixty six. A figure representing a very poor percentage.’ If you know the answer let me know or later on, you find out as to who they are. However, this fact proves beyond doubt the importance given to women in those days.’

Ruby retorted and said, “It is true that women were not given the importance they deserve but that did not prevent them from making a mark. Woman alone is capable of bringing the ‘crown of creation’ into this world.”

Daphne who overheard their conversation said, “I agree with Rachel because Bible has also kept the woman in dark.”

Ruby once again raised her voice and told, “I strongly refute your statement and understand that you are ignorant of many hidden rubies, pearls and diamonds.” Interrupting her thought flow, Rachel responded, “But why should they be hidden? That’s exactly my question?”

Daphne deftly turned the conversation and now supported Ruby saying, “Treasures that which are lightly got are little valued isn’t it? Hunt for hidden treasures and surely you will find that women outwit men in everything.

Ruby told, “Recently I heard a harangue by a servant of God and was much impressed by the message she had received from the Lord. If you are particular and insist in knowing about hidden treasures inside a daring women, I will play the VCD titled ‘Follow her footsteps’ that I had purchased. Hope you all will be benefited through these words.’

After receiving the consent of Rachel and Daphne, she carefully unpacked the mentioned VCD and played it. Out came a very bold voice like a flowing fountain full of life.

“My dear Friend, in the Bible many books and chapters describe the virtues of various men like Moses, Joshua, Elisha, Elijah and others. However, do you know of a certain person who is just described in just two chapters but has the following characters.

A Prophetess – One who got the word of God to the people. God does not show partiality. He reveals His plan to both men and women alike. Some of the other prophetesses are Anna, Huldah, the virgin daughters of an Evangelist at Philippi.

A family woman – She is the wife of a man named Lapidoth. Remember many woman who are in a family would instantly agree that house keeping calls for a greater sacrifice.

A judge - A woman of wisdom and knowledge who judged Israel at that time.

A prominent person - People came in search of her. Yes the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

A mother – The statement, ‘Arose a mother in Israel’ clearly gives a picture of the virtues of a mother that are indescribable.

A comforter – When village life had ceased, she stood with the children of Israel encouraging them.

A consoler – She consoles the children of Israel who had turned to the idols to recount the righteous acts of the Lord.

A caretaker – She took care of the children of Israel when there was no flow of life in them. The statement, ‘the highways were deserted’ shows that there is no human activity or movement of goods.

A political advisor – She asks the king, “Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded?”

A companion – After having received the word from the Lord, she never left the king to fight alone but accompanies him and this is clearly evident from the fact that she says, “I will surely go with you.”

A warrior – A woman who goes to the war front. She is not only valiant in art of wrestling with the enemy but she also is a person who is a prayer warrior. Although this is not explicit, it is evident that only through prayer she could stay connected with the Almighty.

A daring woman – We come to know that she is a daring woman when she frankly discloses the fact to the king saying, “Nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking.”

A composer and singer – The spontaneous flow of words show that she is both a composer and a singer. She and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day.’

A praising woman – A woman who firmly believed that the Lord came down for her against the mighty.

A diligent seeker of God - She had perfect love for God. She says, “Lord! But let those who love Him be like the sun when it comes out in full strength.” Only perfect love can cast out fear because God is love.

A wonderful leader – She led the children of Israel so much so that the king says, ‘if you will not go with me, I will not go!’ The powerful presence of God in her made her a wonderful leader. She received no service but truly served the people – the essential character that is a criteria for a good leader as expressed by Jesus Christ while He sojourned on this earth. "… the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, …."

A woman of peace – She was the woman who brought peace to that war torn land. ‘So the land had rest for forty years.’ She is a symbol of peace.

The combined characteristics of a wife, prophetess, prayer warrior, judge, leader, mother, companion, comforter, consoler, caretaker, composer and singer could only be seen in a woman – Deborah. Why shouldn’t you and I try to inculcate her values and virtues instead of mourning that women are not given any importance.

Rachel told, “Thanks Ruby for your timely intervention. God has sent you to throw light on the fact that He loves the women folk very dearly. Hereafter, I will not lament that women are not given importance by others but I will value myself as a woman and follow the footsteps of Deborah.”
