GO GET YOUR INHERITANCE, DAUGHTER: ¡¥IT¡¦S YOUR LIFE!
As women in the body of Christ, we sometimes feel as though there has been nothing laid aside for us. We sometimes feel as though the only thing God wants us to do is to take care of the men and children He has given to us or assigned us to. Well, I tell you this is only part of it. There is more than one role that a woman may play in the body of Christ. As women we must study and prepare ourselves for the release that God has set aside for us. We must not be intimidated by our surroundings for if God is truly for us, who shall be against us. However, in order to walk into this inheritance, there are certain conditions that must be met. Let¡¦s take a look at them.
1. THERE MUST BE A BIRTHRIGHT.
In order to be qualified for the inheritance that has been laid aside for you, you must have the birthmark. Believe it or not, the only inheritance laid aside for those that accept Christ as their Savior, is salvation. That is it! It may sound odd, but there are scriptures to back this is up.
NUMBERS 26:33 Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah were the daughters of Zelophehad. Now this is important because the lot that was set aside was for Zelophehad sons, not his daughters. How do I know this? Because the law stated that the inheritance is passed down to the sons. There seemed to be no provisions for daughters in the law. Did God forget something? Of course not, He gave the law as it applied to the people. Now, wisdom is needed to interpret the law. Because, they were daughters to one who was allotted land, they would not have to leave the camp, but it did not automatically make the land theirs. Salvation does not guarantee that you will receive the inheritance. However, it puts you in a place to pursue.
The covenant was established in Genesis. I recall hearing my spiritual father state that everything that you ever wanted to know about and know how it started, go to the book of Genesis. Genesis, is where the first covenant was established after God wiped the earth clean with a flood. He still did not leave us without a right to the things that he promised.
Why is it we are trying to claim something that does not belong to us? Salvation does not make us joint-heirs with Christ. We have to be clear on this. We must not think that God is going to allow us to inherit something that we are not capable of handling. Even though we have accepted Christ, we still have a worldly scent lingering on us. And sometimes it is not just on us, it is in us. Your soul has been washed, but your flesh must be denied. Romans 8th chapter explains this so well. Paul spoke about the carnally-minded Christian. You can not possess your inheritance smelling like the devil. Usually if you keep smelling smoke, you will start to wonder where the fire is! So what does this have to do with birthright. If you have been born of the Water and the Spirit, then you are one step closer to claiming your inheritance. A Christian must have control of their flesh. Without this, there will be no possession of the land set aside for you. The daughters of Zelophehad knew this. I imagine that they checked themselves before that went before Moses and the priest. They left no room to chance.
2. YOU GOT TO SHOW UP!
What if the daughters of Zelophehad were not present when the inheritance was being handed out. What if they felt as though it really did not matter if they were, because what God has for me it is for me! How many times have you said that. This is such a true statement, but God is not going to knock on your door and say ¡§I have been waiting all of eternity to give you this.¡¨ Your inheritance is for you to go and get. If someone left you $1,000,000 in the bank and to obtain it you had to show up at the bank, would you still sit there and say what God has for me, it is for me. That would be foolish, right. Well, the daughters showed up. They were in the presence of it.
Numbers 27:1 - Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
The scriptures states then came the daughters¡K They were present when Moses started calling out the names. They heard their father¡¦s name and knew his seed had an inheritance. However, they did not stop there. They still have to present themselves before Moses. They were in the presence of the inheritance, they could see the inheritance, but could they pay the price to obtain the inheritance? What have you been in the presence of and you knew that it belonged to you? What did God show you? Now, can you show up and pay the price?
3. MUST BE ABLE TO STAND THE PRESSURE YET SUBMIT TO THE AUTHORITY.
You must be able to stand when it seems that even leadership may be against you. If it is not against you, maybe the leadership just overlooks you. You can¡¦t allow your feelings to cause you to miss your inheritance. So what, you were overlooked. How many people have you overlooked because they may not have what you have, or look a certain way, drive a certain car. It doesn¡¦t feel good when it happens to you. The pressure was there for these daughters. That had to submit to the authority that their Holy God had placed over them. Moses and Eleazar did as God had commanded them. Now, the daughters had to come and submit to what seems to the natural eye as leadership that has overlooked them or maybe think they are incapable of handling the inheritance. (We will discuss this matter latter.) Remember, things are not as they seem. Sometimes it is good to confront a situation. You never know whose heart God has touched and how a person will respond. Your only requirement is to make sure that you respect the leaders placed before you. Do not be confrontational! It is said that women in leadership are confrontational and do not know how to handle the positions given. Be careful how you begin any situation, because you will must likely continue that same way.
Numbers 27:2 ¡V ¡§And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,¡K¡¨
I think it is important that the scripture mentions exactly whom they stood before. They did not go around and get everybody¡¦s opinion and complain about the decree made by the leaders. There was no need to try and sway anyone to be on their side. After all, their God would have the final say. If you want everybody to know your dilemma, then bring it before everybody. This way everybody hears the same thing and you do not get a chance to adlib the situation.
4. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!
Now the daughters have gotten everyone¡¦s attention. Everyone has gathered and they are waiting to hear what the daughters have to say. Sometimes, we as women, may desire to express ourselves, but when we are presented the opportunity to stand we look as though we are unsure of ourselves. We try to offer reasons why we are unclear in our speech. You know the ones, ¡§I am little nervous¡K¡¨, ¡§I just can¡¦t express what I feel because¡K.¡¨, ¡§I am not sure how to say it or if you will understand what I am saying but I am going to try to do this¡K.¡¨. EXCUSES! Because of opening statements such as these, those that are listening to us have now gathered in their minds that whatever is being said has not been thought through or whatever is being asked for, the person is incapable of handling it. Let¡¦s see how the daughters in the scripture handled themselves.
Numbers 27: 3-4 ¡V ¡§Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons. Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.
Look at what they did. They did not make polite conversation trying to be friendly with those whom they have come before. They have their attention. Why did they need to prolong the cause. They were there because they wanted their inheritance, not to make friends. They knew what happen in the wilderness. They knew the situation that was behind the dividing of the land. They knew why some were not getting anything. They knew their father and what path he had left for them. They merely stated the facts first. They brought things back to remembrance. However, it would have been very hard to bring something back to someone¡¦s remembrance if you never knew it in the first place! They said: Look, our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among those that disobeyed God. He never turned his back on God. He was faithful. He died in his own sin, not because of the wrath that God brought on those that were against Him. Also, there is another thing, Zelophehad did not have any sons. He had us, 5 daughters. Now, we know the law and what it states, but why should the name of our father be cast to the side because there is no man to step up and take ownership of the land given to his seed. We ask they we get the possession of the inheritance among the brethren of our father. Why was this statement important? Because, if they would give the land to their father¡¦s brethren, then their father would know longer have a name among those that were given lots. In other words, why should we be forgotten because our father had no sons. We are capable and righteous to handle the gift of our God. Give it to us. After they said what had to be said, they left no questions to be answered as to why they came before them. They were prepared, confident in their right to stand, and assured that God would move on their behalf.
5. DOES YOUR COVERING HAVE THE BEST INTENTIONS FOR YOUR RELEASE TO GROW?
Now the daughters have made their request, and Moses hears them and doesn¡¦t answer them but He takes the request to God. This is important. If Moses would not have been careful to hear what God had to say and begin to dismiss the daughters because there was no stated provision in law as it stood, then the daughters very well may have been hindered in receiving their release. Moses understood that he had a responsibility to all that God had given him charge over. Your covering is important. You must make sure that you are under the right man or woman of God. If not, jealously, enviousness, pride, slothfulness, immaturity in your covering may cause you to miss your inheritance. You see if they had brought their request before Eleazar the priest, and not Moses, their inheritance would have been denied. Even though Eleazar had authority, He did not have authority of the people. That was given to Moses. Make sure that your request is to the right covering. How do I know that Moses was the one in command. Because of the scripture.
Number 27:5-11 - And Moses brought their cause before the LORD. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren. And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren. And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.
Not only did Moses take it before God, but he waited on answer before he went back to the daughters. This is important for all of you women whom God has given authority to cover others. You must not when you have nothing to say. Wait and hear what God wants you to do. Just as you would not want a superficial answer, do not give it to someone else. Now God says to Moses, the daughters are right. Can you image? God agreeing with you! That is what happened. God says (in my interpretation) They are right and the inheritance needs to go to them. Moses, give it to them. Moses, not only will you give the inheritance to them, but I want you to make it known to all. Make it a part of the law. My daughters of the kingdom will not ever be left without an inheritance. Not only is it law, but it is a statue of judgement. It better be obeyed! Oh, my! You have made sure that you are in the will of God. You know your place. You have respected authority. You have prepared yourself. Now when you decide to stand and ask for what belongs to you, God is there to back you up. Can you imagine how the daughters embraced their God. Can you imagine the praise they gave Him. Oh, our God how we thank You for following us in this place. Thank you for your gift. Thank you for your protection. Can you imagine!
6. THE INHERITANCE CAUSES OTHERS TO QUESTION THE AUTHORITY YOU HAVE.
Now you possess your inheritance, now you are set in the place that God has given. You are prospering and things are going good. This doesn¡¦t mean when others see you, they are not questioning your right to do things as the others. You see Zelophehad's daughters had their inheritance. God had put it in the law. They had been release to prosper in the things of God. But there is some opposition. It is not from those on the outside, but it comes from the inside. Their own brings a question before Moses. It is not immediate. They have had time to watch them and they have the same rights as others. But they are women. Therefore, they are apt to make irrational decisions.
Numbers 36: 1-4 - And the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel: And they said, The LORD commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters. And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance. And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.
The chief fathers in their own tribe brings the concern. This is two-fold for me. On one hand, I understand the concern of the chief fathers. You know that have history to back them. In history, women were prone to make irrational decisions. The fathers did not want the enemy coming in and have right to the land that was given by God to them. I understand that.
On the other hand, these are the same women whom God had previously backed in their decision. They had proved they were capable and only to the things that were pleasing before God. They were careful in detail, analytical in make decisions, and they were educated.
As I said, it is two-fold for me. But, there is one thing. God knows where our hearts are. He knows what are intentions are. He knew which chief fathers were genuinely concerned about the protection of the inheritance and which ones were just jealous. So He answers as only God can!
7. CAN YOU BE TRUSTED TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE KINGDOM?
If God was to release your inheritance to you, could you be trusted to do what is right? I believe, that sometimes we are given tests to see if we can handle the small things. You know you have a desire to be used by God to bring healing to broken bodies. Your test may be to see how you react when you are faced with someone that doesn¡¦t move as fast are you want them too. Can you wait and hold the door for them. Does the person in front of in the wheelchair, cause you to frown and begin to complain in your spirit because you are in a hurry. Can you be trusted with the inheritance? You see even though the daughters were given the land, the inheritance, somebody had to take care of the land. It had to be tilled and groomed if they wanted a harvest. The land was not just for them. It was for all. The way they took care of the land was going to effect how the women coming behind them would be accepted. Thank God for the gifts of the Spirit, but without the fruits of the Spirit, the gift would cause us to lose our minds. Are you trustworthy. Let¡¦s see if the daughters of Zelophehad were.
Numbers 36:5-10 - And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the LORD, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well. This is the thing which the LORD doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry. So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance of his fathers. Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself to his own inheritance. Even as the LORD commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad:
Now God had trust in these women! God tells Moses, (translation) Okay, the fathers have a point. But these women are trustworthy. I see their hearts. They are not going to deterred. Give this law. Tell the daughters to keep the land in the tribe of their fathers. But , I am not going to allow anyone to choose their husbands. These are kingdom daughters. Let them marry whom they want in the tribe. Whomever they choose is going to be someone that is going to bring growth to the land. Every daughter that comes after these and possess land, they shall do the same. The will have an example in the daughters of Zelophehad. (end of translation)
What did the daughters do? They did exactly what Moses said. They offered no words, they were obedient. They did not complain about the others that question their authority. That is how we are to be. You see people are entitled to their own thoughts and concerns. You can¡¦t change the minds of others. So what, someone is questioning my authority given by God. Let them question, because in the end God still is backing me. He will let them know I hear you. I know she may have made wrong decisions in the past. But her past does not determine her purpose. Women, there is another thing that is in those verses. It stated that they could marry whom they think best. They had a choice. Every man that finds you, doesn¡¦t mean that you have to choose him. You may be good for someone, but it does not mean he is good for you!
The daughters of Zelophehad wanted their inheritance. So, they positioned themselves to receive. Today, we as women have an inheritance that has been set aside for us by our Holy Father. Jesus the Christ came and left us a path to follow. He left provisions for us. This is the major point concerning this study. The Bible always noted them as the daughters of Zelophehad. I truly believe this is the major point. These women knew their father. They knew him. If we do not know our Heavenly Father through Jesus the Christ, then when the inheritance is being handed out, we will not know it is ours. Just being saved is not enough. So what, you are on two or three committees in the church. So what if you go to church and you profess to be a Christian. It doesn¡¦t make you a daughter. If you are a daughter, you do not have to tell everyone you meet. There should be something about you that causes others to take notice. There should be something about you that causes others to recognize you even if they do not want to. I recall an occurrence that kept happening to me. As trivial as it was, it caused me to bring it before God. In my prayer life, I kept telling God I wanted Him to get all the glory out everything that I do and say. I meant it from my heart and I was sincere. Whenever I went somewhere, whether the person knew me or not, someone would always compliment me on my hair. Now to me that was trivial. I was like ¡§thank you, but God it is just hair!¡¨. It was always said how beautiful it was. So I asked God why was this happening everywhere I went. He said you asked me to get all the glory out of you. My word says that a woman¡¦s hair is her glory. Yet, you gave it to me. So My Glory always causes people to take notice. It causes others to respond because they do not know handle it. But my glory is being seen through you. I am processing you and others are taking notice. I am setting you in your rightful place, and others have to respond. So, I ask you, what is it that others say to you. What do others take notice of? Does it bring God glory or dishonor. With an inheritance, comes responsibility. Are you up for the task? Can you sacrifice? Will you give up the man that your flesh desires and receive the man God has provided. God could not allow these women to go into the enemy¡¦s camp and find a mate. Do we?
God loves you! I know you hear it all the time, but do you believe it? Have your received it? Are you taking Him up on His offer? Get you inheritance. Don¡¦t allow any flesh to cause you to miss it. That¡¦s right, not even yourself! Deny yourself. I know that you have lost things in the past. But His Word speaks that the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the just! It is waiting on you to want it bad enough. I know some say they want nothing that the devil has. But even Jesus went to hell and reclaimed the key! Which of your keys does the devil hold. Get your life back! It is yours! Commit and submit! Many blessings does God have for all that accept His Son. But only the ones are in the Kingdom ¡Vthe joint-heirs- will receive the inheritance! Go Get It!
