As I had once been in the Mormons, a friend asked me to tell about some of their beliefs. This is my story as I remember it. God wants me to testify about my experience to hopefully pray them out of their clutches.

What the Mormons taught. What the Bible teaches.

Never being grounded in the truth, it was so easy to fall into the Mormon trap. At the time, I was married to husband #3. He saw the ad on T.V. about getting a free “Book of Mormons”. Little did he know that it would break up our marriage? Besides the Book of Mormons, they always recommend that you read “Pearl of Great Price” and “Articles of Faith” along with many of their other books.

I read the book. It read ALMOST like the Bible; with the Biblical sounding names and places. I didn’t know the Bible that well yet. Later I learned that none of the names or places could be found in history like the Bible can.

I called them and said I would like to learn more. They were more than willing to teach me. I was very eager. There was still something missing in my life.

First they told me the story of how Joseph Smith found some plates in New York. He claimed that the angel Moroni revealed to him what the plates were. I can’t remember all the technical details and I do want to tell it in my own words not something I read on the internet. Joseph Smith was the one they believed; not our Jesus.

They were excited because my last name was close to the angel’s name. I was blessed. This past year I discovered that they don’t tell everyone all the “fairy tales” at once. It’s enough that they become Mormons without all the details. Some won’t understand just like some Christians never go past being pew sitters.

They went on to tell me that God the Father had spirit children to Mother Earth. This is another of their facts that are never the same. I have been hearing so many different stories from other Mormons and none are true.

The lie goes on to say that people on earth had to marry and have children so one of the spirit children could acquire a body. That is why they are allowed many wives. The more babies there are; the more Mormons. They still practice it without marriage. A man may have several wives in different homes. I can’t quite believe that the women don’t mind be 2nd, 3rd or 4th wife or as many as he can afford.

It doesn’t sound much different than in the world today. It happens all the time only the couples don’t bother with any marriages. The world was getting pretty rotten---nothing new since time began with the fall of Adam. Jesus and Satan were supposed to be brothers. They were to come up with a plan to save the world. Jesus won.

We have all these spirits who moved into bodies (similar to space brothers where a spirit takes over a person’s body. That is another thing I thought I’d try. I never knew it was demon possession. I wasn’t a bit happy and I didn’t care any more. I sat in the corner on the cold floor begging for help. I almost gave in to my spirit guide but God gently interfered. The rest is kind of vague.

They travel the world searching for those who are gullible and don’t question them. Wow! It just now came to me that this is a picture of I Peter 8: Be sober, be diligent; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour.” These are people who weren’t aware they were Satan’s ministers doing the devil’s work.

These people are so sincere and also so persistent. They do a lot of walking around and don’t hesitate to knock on doors and try to spread their lies. I was sitting on the porch at the high rise. Two young boys with white shirts and black ties came by. One woman spoke to them so they came up on the porch. They began their spiel. I bluntly said I was a Mormon once. They got excited but I didn’t give them a chance to say another word. I told them that they couldn’t become gods. There is only one God.

They left but said they would pray for me. I told them I would pray for them that they would see the truth. My prayer would be answered sooner than theirs.

Genesis 3:4&5 was the lie Satan told Eve in the garden. He has been lying ever since and people believe him because they want to be their own gods. The scripture “And the serpent said unto the woman, you shall not surely die; For God does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

The greatest goal in their belief system is to be the best Mormon you can be. One day you will be your own god in your own world like this one. And start the whole thing over again. You would have your own sons, Jesus and Satan. Evil will come alive again. Which son will solve the problem?

They believe in baptism but not for the same reason we do. I Corinthians 15:29 “Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?” Good question but it didn’t have much meaning until I was with the Mormons.

It must have been the habit of some to do that or why would the subject be brought up? The greatest work outside of bringing in converts, is finding all the ancestors they could find. It is fun learning a little bit about the people who became before you, especially if you can find something interesting or noble about them.

Their idea was that it was their duty to get solid information about the ancestors and get baptized for them in the special temple. If they weren’t Mormons when they died, after their spirits were baptized, they could still become a Mormon. It was a little harder to do without a body. Baptism and genealogy went hand in hand.

They were proud of me. They never saw any one as dedicated as I was to find my relatives! When I wasn’t working I spent every minute I could at the court house, libraries, a Mormon place near Pittsburgh that had a micro fish and any where I could to locate information. I enjoyed it at the time. I had nothing else to do besides work. I Timothy 1:3 & 4 “As I besought you to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that they might charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly
edifying, which is in faith: so do.”

I left them before I got the baptism stage. Actually I got excommunicated (I won’t say why). This is something they never did before. They would hunt you down and kill you before you could get away from them.

There is more but I’ll let it go at that.

I thank God everyday for releasing me from all the prisons I had spent time in. I Timothy 4:1 “Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter daytimes some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.”

The older I get the more I realize that God’s timing is different than ours. 2000 years after Christ are gone by. Yet that isn’t very long in God’s eyes.
All we should do is to keep looking up instead of at all the turmoil around us. God bless you as you think about this.

Let me add my prayers to your efforts. I too am a refugee of the Joseph Smith church—The Restoration. During the past few months I have been searching for the truth and, agonizing as this search has become, I have faith that in the end it will be worth it. The Bible is the word of God. Period. The other two (or three) books—in my humble opinion—are products of a twisted, narcissistic mind. The spitit that ministered to Joseph Smith and his band of happy warriors was not the Holy Spirit. God help us all.

I had to think about commenting on your article, having been a Mormon for over 30-years, been a temple-recommend, covenant maker person. I asked to be excommunicated and my name is still on the rolls of the church--go figure. Never heard about people being hunted down and harmed or killed just to excommunicate somebody. However, they will quit speaking with you. Never heard about Mother Earth, they do teach (and so did I) that there is a Father in Heaven and a Mother in heaven, having been married on earth or sealed through their temple rites, and their children populating the new earth that the male inherited. They do not practice polygamy today, except in the temple--if the man is alive and his wife has died he can marry to a single unsealed woman (she is alive). There are other sects that call themselves Mormon--sects--Like Alex Joseph and others who are not affiliated with the LDS church (Mormons). I won't go through the rest of it. But I would say, I would love to hear your testimony of how you left and why--what you have found to be truth--giving the Lord our God glory and honor due to Him. Paul taught about another Jesus, which is what the Mormons and others teach. Let us join together in the Truth .. God bless you in your journey.
