SEPTEMBER ELEVEN
I have existed
For more than two hundred years
I have stood tall
In the face of trials and fears
I was conceived in liberty
Freedom for every man woman and child
I have been threatened
Attacked, mocked and beguiled
I have stood strong
When others have hated me
I have reached out to other nations
Attempting to help them become free
I am not perfection
But a constant work in progress
I am of, by, and for the people
A work of civil process
I am sons and daughters
Mothers and fathers of all
I am the soldier
Ready to answer the call
I am the laborer
With many a specialized skill
I can do anything
For I am strong of will
I am the teacher
Both in school and at home
I am the lawmaker
Beneath the golden dome
I am the farmer
Food production to astound
I am the astronaut
Toward the heavens I am bound
I am the firefighter
Ready to battle the blaze
I am the astronomer
Studying the moon in each phase
I am the police officer
Here to serve and protect
I am the financial specialist
With numbers and figures to project
I am the doctor
Endeavoring to save a life
I am the social worker
Whose goal is ending strife
I am the miner
Digging through earth and stone
I am many more people
Than these few I’ve shown
As an artist’s canvas
Many colors have I got
I am every nationality
The great melting pot
Being comprised of so many
I have many points of view
One of my greatest strengths
For ideas abound, far from few
My founders sought freedom
For which many were killed to provide
My people have fought bravely
With great honor and pride
My flag is a symbol to all
Who in life are seeking more
But there are those who despise me
And against me wage war
I have fought bravely many times
Even once brother to brother
But until now, my shores
Have been attacked by no other
Villains of the world
Now would be your time to flee
For you will soon know too well
You shouldn’t have tread on me
I once was called a sleeping giant
By an enemy who came to know defeat
Now that slumbering giant
Has again risen to her feet
I am the United States of America
I do not bow to terrorists wrath
For I am a Christian nation
Only God and I shall choose my path
