What a terrible day. I just to lay down and die, until I feel someone watching me.
Alive and full of mischief, I see my child's eyes peeking around a corner. His little nose is hugging the edge of the wall. His giggle becons me to come and play.
"I have a suprise for you daddy, just around this corner."
Weariness is suddenly gone.
I flex my fingers, in out in out, and crack a couple of knuckles. They are ready for tickling, and he knows it. Another gigle. I stand and he disappears, but I don't hear his feet running away. He's not visible, but I know he's still there. So I stalk him. He knows I am just around the corner now. Slowly I reach my hand around to where he is and grab the little monster by the pajamas. He gigles again.
In a moment he is pulled around the corner, and is howling with anticipatory laughter. My fingers dig into his ribs, under his arms, and all over his feet, until he begs me to stop.
"Potty, daddy! Potty!"
I let him go. He doesn't run to the potty but ducks in to his bedroom and slams the door. More giggles. I'm after him again, and this time I'm giggling.
My surprise waits for me behind the door. My redemption drawth nigh in his laughter and love.
