A Small Token

A rainbow is a small token
That God’s promise won’t be broken.
Never again will He destroy
With flood—men, women, girls, and boys.

If you are unclear on this sight,
Upon it, let me shed some light.
This is how it all came to be
Way back during antiquity.

Mankind began to multiply—
Wicked imaginations high.
God beheld the growth of evil.
The world was in an upheaval.

He felt grief for His creation.
It reeked of abomination.
He repented He had formed it.
This violent madness must quit.

God’s judgment had to be abrupt.
The people were truly corrupt.
He would rid the planet of sin—
An improved human race begin.

Before God poured out His great wrath,
He found a good man in His path.
It was Noah, perfect and just.
In the Lord, he had placed his trust.

Noah found grace in the Lord’s eyes,
So God spared him from demise.
He advised him of His plan
To wash away beast and man.

God warned Noah to build a boat.
On raging waters, it would float.
He gave him precise instruction
For the vessel’s right construction.

God established a covenant—
Noah and kin would be tenants.
A pair of all living things,
God commanded him to bring.

Noah had aged six hundred years
When the nonstop downpour appeared.
Rain fell forty long nights and days
While Earth sodden in water lay.

All the creatures outside the ark
Died and left civilization stark.
Only the eight souls safe inside
Remained when the flood did subside.

Noah, his sons, in-laws, and wife
Went worth to start a new life.
A burnt sacrifice Noah gave
For abiding among those saved.

The Lord smelled the sweet savor,
And Noah obtained God’s favor.
God would curse the ground no more
Nor smite all creatures, He swore.

God pledged to Noah and his seed
And all the other living breeds,
That while earth stood, seedtime, harvest,
And all the seasons would progress.

In the clouds, God rested His bow.
About His vow, all flesh would know.
Never again would He destroy
With flood—men, women, girls, and boys.
