Janie woke up this morning feeling very bad, thinking about all the bad choices she made after leaving home and turning her back on all the values she had been taught by her parents and in Sunday school.
She sat up on her bed, ruminating on all the things that have gone wrong.
How can she fix the mess she brought on herself? How will she get out? Where can she turn to for help? Everything seems so bleak. Ashamed of herself, the feeling of guilt overwhelmed her. She asked herself questions over and over - Where do I go from here? Is a way out of this predicament? She is too ashamed to go home to ask her parents for help. Her financial situation is a serious cause for concern because since she lost her job last month and no one was willing to offer her any employment because of her condition. She’s a financial mess. Her landlord has threatened to throw her out, also her boyfriend ran out on her when he heard she was pregnant and she refused an abortion.
He gave her an ultimatum- either she got rid of the pregnancy or he leaves, because he was not ready to be bugged down with the responsibility of being a father. She refused to get an abortion, so he simply left her and cut off all communication. She doesn’t even know where he is. She also does not know any of his family members. All their friends sympathized with her but don’t know where he is.
She felt all alone with no help in the world. The only people she could turn to she had disappointed them and broke communication with them over four years. She had 24 hours to move or be thrown out of her apartment. She had no savings; she sold her car to meet her financial needs on this cold winter day. She had nothing to eat, but of course she could go to the DSS or the shelter. She longed for the comforting arms of her parents. She continued to wonder what the way out for her would be since she does not even have the money to travel back home. Would they accept her, after all she put them through? She started packing her things just so that she can do something to take her mind of the matter. As she was packing, some things fell from her suitcase. It was the things she kept in remembrance of her old life and parents. She saw the bible they gave her and she started crying for the third time. That morning, she suddenly stopped and opened the bible, her face fell on the words “I am the way, the truth, and the light”. Suddenly she began to think about what she read and started to say “Lord Jesus if you are truly the way please make a way for me out of this”. She told God that she brought it on her self but if he could please have mercy, she may find a way out of her situation.
All through that day she kept going through the bible which had been with her for years then she stumbled on another word of God which says “I will make a way in the wilderness”. Then she asked God to make a way for her; a way to escape the mess she brought on herself”.
She read, prayed and cried all day .in the evening. Her landlord called and told her because of the weather, she can stay till the end of the week or if she can pay up the rent, she can continue to stay in the apartment. She thanked him and blessed God for this. Then she made up her mind to contact her parents. She picked up her old phone book and called home.
To her surprise, her mother picked the phone up and spoke to her as if nothing ever happened. She told her she wants to come home to visit. Her mother promised to send her some money and that she could have her old room back. She told her that her father would be delighted to see her.
Janie’s mom had been in prayer for her ever since she left home. When nothing seemed to work, she kept standing on the word of God and trusted the lord. She asked God to hedge her way with thorns so that she can turn back to Christ. So when her daughter called home she was not surprised. She knew that God always does the right thing.
Bad choices and all God made a way of escape for Janie. He restored her to himself and her parents though she still had the consequence of all the things to serve as a reminder of the bad choices she made and of the mercies of God.
Our God is so awesome, for in his faithfulness he always makes a way of escape according to his word that says “There is no temptation that comes upon us that is not common to man but for every temptation he will make a way of escape”.
If God can do it for Janie, he can do it for all his children.
Our God is wonderful, for even in our unfaithfulness, he is faithful and he always makes a way of escape according to his word.
