When I was a child
My mother would say,
"When you clean up your room
You can then go and play!"
So I said to myself,
"When I get big
I'm gonna do as I like
And live like a pig!"
But first I went away
To a Boarding school;
Where a" neat and clean room"
Was the Number One Rule!
So again I decided,
"Enough is enough!"
And joined the Marines
Where things Really got tough!
When the Sergeant would yell,
We'd all hit the deck!
Then stand at Attention
Till they'd come to inspect.
But then I got married;
And I suggested a "maid";
But in just two seconds
THAT dream would fade!
But now I'm a Senior -
And I'd like to assume,
That at last I'm in charge
Of my own little room.
But today my assumptions
Were all swept away,
When I heard them announce...
"Room Checks, starting today!"

Marilyn, thia is as cute as can be and so true! The last line bothered me, an extra syllable or two? Room checks at ten today? I'm no poet, so take that with a couple of grains of salt. I find this very witty and a fun read!

I truly enjoyed the whit and humor found in your poem. Although times were not always what we thought they would be, looking back.. at least we can manage to keep a bit of something to ourselves, even if it's just our sense of humor. Thank you for sharing yours! littlelight
This is VERY funny and much needed after the series of articles that I felt compelled to write and live! Thank you for your wonderful sense of humor and for sharing the gift the Lord has placed in you with us! Happy New Year!
