Thanks to my Faithwriters friends who've given lots of help with this via. the critique circle - our team appreciates it!
Our team has taken for our theme verse this year 1 Timothy 2:1-4*, but there seem to be few hymns that pick up on the commands to pray for our leaders and governments apart from specifically nationalistic ones (God Save the Queen; God Bless America etc). We’re international and wanted something more general.
*1 Timothy 2:1-4 NIV
“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
Prayer for our governments (based on 1 Timothy 2:1-4)
(To the tune of ‘In Christ there is no east or west’)
Lord, help us each to daily pray,
For our countries’ good.
Oh God, please guide our governments,
Your ways be understood.
For presidents, prime ministers,
Kings and queens, we often pray,
So we can live a peaceful life,
Godly in every way.
Our leaders’ minds are in your hand,
Though this they may deny,
And so we pray you’ll guide their thoughts,
On them we do rely.
Pray daily for our governments,
According to Your Word,
Then we will be good citizens,
Lord, let our prayers be heard.
