The Missing Ingredient To My Life

I was thinking this week as I baked Christmas treats, how each ingredient, no matter how small, each contributed to the final result, to make the recipe complete, I would need them all.

Some things are like extras, like the raisins and the nuts - they aren't strictly necessary, but oh, they add so much!

The spices I use, the flavoring I put in this time, makes each treat special on its own, with a taste and texture so sublime.

Some cookies don't look like much, they can be lumpy and not quite round, but they are the ones in which the most wonderful tastes can be found.

So I learned to not be worried too much about how they look when they are done, for when each comes out of the oven so warm, they become the new best one.

It reminded me so of my life before I met you, like ingredients I'd mixed but not baked, for I was not sure what to do, if I had everything life would take.

I knew something was missing, I felt it was the most important thing, and every time I tried making my life on my own, disappointment was all I seemed to bring.

I finally gave up, threw up my hands, and decided to not even try, for whatever was missing, I knew I didn't have, and my heart made a silent cry.

Jesus heard that tiny sound, and before I could shut the door and hide, I looked around and was astonished to see that He'd always be right there at my side.

He knew the missing ingredient to my life, and He knew how good the recipe could be, and He asked to come into my heart for He told me 'the missing part of your life is Me!'

How wonderful it was to give up the struggle, to lay all my troubles at His feet,
and know that every need that I had, He promised He would meet.

Into the mixture that was my life, He added His love and forgiveness true, and added the spices of joy and hope, and suddenly the recipe was brand new.

He wasn't done, He'd save the best for last, for my life wasn't to be lived as one,
and the most special things of all were still in the future, the best was yet to come.

The day finally dawned when the recipe was complete, the last thing was added to make my life brand new, for that was the day God gave me back love, and it was all wrapped up in you.

Now together we mix a brand new recipe every day, the discovery of each days joys to bring, each one different, yet always the same, for they are all made of the very same thing.

The greatest happiness I have every day is to find a new way to show what is so true, for every day I place in your hands another fresh "I love you!"

As the Word of God says, we are the salt of the earth. How I pray that I'll never lose my saltiness!!! But, sigh, I also pray for the faith to believe that my "sugar" will arrive soon and the patience to wait for His perfect timing. God knows I wouldn't want a dough that wouldn't come out just right. :::smile::: Excellent, Trish, as usual.
