The Child Inside You
By: Ricky Flowers
It is interesting the changes that occur as we get older. When we are children we run and play without a care in the world, we go barefoot, play in the rain and, we are fearless
As children, nothing can harm us
When we grow older we forget how to have fun, forget that child inside of us
It’s as if the rain will cause us to melt and the smell of flowers will make us sick
It’s as if walking and running will harm us in some way. We begin to realize our mortality, the responsibilities of everyday life become burdens.
The stress of life takes its toll more than it should because, we have forgotten to stop and enjoy the world around us. We don't take time to be silent and thoughtful, we don't slow down for fear of damaging the bottom line. For this we suffer physically and mentally as well as socially.
We are too concerned about what other people think of us to be ourselves. Our self-esteem is low and our confidence weak.
For most of us, we are so much deeper inside than the world will ever see. What most of the world sees is a concoction. We have created a character to be when we are out in the world and know in our mind that this is not who we really are, but we do it because we fear rejection or disapproval from our peers.
If only we could let that part of us go, we could finally be happy with who we are because, in reality, it really doesn't matter what the rest of the world thinks of us, it only matters what we think and what God thinks.
A large number of people in the world are depressed and unhappy, 50-60% of marriages fail. Obesity is an epidemic in our country because of comfort food and because we have become a society of couch potatoes, everything is too easy for us and we are spoiled.
So what is the point you ask, the point is that if we can forget what others think and be ourselves, if you can be like that child you used to be, then you can become the person you want to be and happiness will find you. If you take time to be silent, take time to enjoy the world around you, take a walk barefoot through the field.....in the rain, you will finally know that NO, you will not melt, the flowers will not make you sick and the beauty of the world will not blind you. This beauty was created for you to enjoy. Nature is an excellent stress reliever and everyone needs relief from what is our life from time to time. So take time for yourself, do something good for YOU, you deserve it and, thank God every day for what he has given.
