Don't call it prayin' if your mind's made up
Before you bow your head,
(If you're tellin' 'stead of askin'
He'll not heed one word you've said.)
It's as if you seek a Godly vote
For what YOU, alone, decided.
(Not sought His guidance or His help
And in His strength confided.)
Don't call it prayin' when an issue comes
Demandin' time on knees;
Not just a hasty, "Help me, Lord,"
Or, "See this MY way, please!"
The Master listens to your heart
While shallow words offend,
Align your soul with God's own will...
Then 'light out' prayin', friend!
Don't call it prayin' when lofty words
Are all you have to say;
Those spoken loudly to impress
The folks along life's way.
If THEY can grant your fondest wish
Just say those words...to THEM,
But if you'd touch the MASTER'S heart,
Then lift YOUR heart to HIM!

As usual, Howard, you have that mastery of words which put your poems in a class of their own. This one is surely for the proud and those who think they're very important.
