Last night, sometime between midnight and dawn, while Candy and I were chalking up our Z's, Mother Nature pitched one of her fits.in the form of a thunderstorm. At the first loud crack of booming thunder, Candy dove under the bed and I pulled the covers up over my head and went back to sawing Z's.
The storm evidently knocked out the power , because the next morning my alarm went off an hour late! Rushing around trying to make up for lost time, I stubbed my toe, dropped my toothbrush in the commode and broke my favorite coffee cup, spilling coffee and pieces of glass all over the kitchen floor!
Candy, my loyal little companion, waited patiently by the door, tail wagging in anticipation of our morning walk, listening to me gripe and grumble as I swept up glass and mopped up the coffee. Finally, ready to go, I snapped on her leash and walked out the rear door.
Walking in the light of day was a new experience for us, as it was usually pitch dark outside when we took our morning walk. About half way down the walkway I noticed some bricks that had blown to the ground during the midnight storm.
As we got closer, I could see something that looked like brown feathers protruding from under one of the fallen bricks. Walking over to investigate, I reached down, picked up the fallen brick and was startled by a little sparrow that flew up and out, just inches from my face, and immediately disappeared into the morning mist.
Candy barked excitedly at the sight of the sparrow and strained at her leash to follow. I was just immobile, captivated by the unexpected!
The sparrow had evidently found a little niche in the hollow of a brick and tucked himself in for the night; but Mother Nature, in her fury, had hurled the sparrow's cozy retreat to the ground with him inside! Trapped inside an upside-down brick, the sparrow was helpless and supposedly doomed - but it wasn't doomed.! His Creator, who keeps His eye on the sparrow, and knows each time a sparrow falls, had a plan! A plan that included me, not to mention the power outage that caused us to walk in the daylight instead of the dark, where we could see the fallen brick and the brown feathers.
And to think I had grumbled and complained through every step of the rescue process - from the tripping, to the spilling, to the mess..- it was all a part of God's rescue plan!
I felt great the rest of the day. I had played a starring role in a scene down here on planet Earth; Directed and Produced by the Creator of the universe, Himself!
Just think! While I had slept snuggled in a nice warm bed, a frightened little sparrow was huddled underneath an upside down brick, awaiting my arrival to set him free!
Delays, trying times and misfortunes happen for a reason. Sometimes...for a very good reason.!!
