I have a confession to make. I've never learned how to cook turkey. Honestly, I've never even tried cooking turkey at all. I can almost hear a gasp here and there, “Shame on you, Gloria!"
Picture me blushing here, but I just bought a Vons Special Turkey Dinner complete with fully cooked turkey, mashed potato and gravy, holiday cranberry sauce, Southern corn bread dressing, a dozen old fashioned dinner rolls and fully baked pumpkin pie. All I need to do is heat them up, and we'll have a Thanksgiving dinner, and maybe some leftover to last for a day or two. A turkey sandwich for my daughter’s lunch after this holiday will come handy.
It doesn’t take a wisdom of the sages to know that Thanksgiving Day is not all about turkey and pumpkin pie. It’s about thanking God for all the blessings, not only for the food on the table, but the blessings of family and friends. It’s about being grateful for what God has given us, instead of complaining of what we do not have. For me, it’s giving Him the praises for His abounding love and faithfulness, His mercy and grace. “For the Lord is good; His loving-kindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations” ( Psalm 100;5 ).
Dear Lord, before I have my first bite of turkey today, help me to remember that You are the Reason for our celebration. You are the Source of all the bountiful blessings that surround us. Remind me also to be thankful of all Your wonderful promises that sustain us not only today, but always. In Jesus Name, Amen.
“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways.
You will eat the fruit of your labor.
Blessings and prosperity will be yours.”
Have a blessed and a happy Thanksgiving Day everyone! Pass the turkey, please!
Well Gloria, Thanksgiving day is over, but not the thanksgiving! God blessed our Thanksgiving day so abundantly, for I forgot a few things, but everything worked out just fine, and I told my daughter who was helping me, it seems as if God were right here with us, just helping everything to come out great! So with His help, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I thank God for caring people like you Gloria, who are such a blessing to the rest of us. Love, Sharon
I don't know how to cook turkey as well. I figured it's like cooking whole chicken and the secret to its taste is in the sauce and spices. Hmn, God allows us to experience different 'taste' so we could 'see' Him in different situations. Turkey or chicken, or sauce and other trimmings for Thanksgiving reminds us that there is the God that provides.
"It's not about turkey" AMEN! Every year, we all meet at Mom's house. She goes all out. I don't guess there is a greater cook. My son asked "Mom, who is going to do Thanksgiving dinner when Maw-maw dies?" I told him that I would. He said "You know you're getting old when everyone comes to your house for your turkey." So there you are... a blessing in disguise! :::smile:::
