As I sit here this morning, reading, studying, praying and meditating upon the WORD. Not knowing what or even if I was to write and share this morning. A question started arising inside me and overflowing into a process of deeper meditation and prayer.
What defines a church?
Is it the theatrics and the flamboyant shows that fill our pulpits? NO it is not; see if people come to church to see a show, they come for the wrong reason. If it takes theatrics and a magnificent stage show to draw people to our churches there is something wrong, when the truth in simplicity is replaced with rehearsed plays and light shows, the WORD of GOD is taking a back seat to the want of larger congregations by many pastors.
What defines a church is, is the flock truly being shepherded? Does the congregation love GOD and display HIS love not only in voice but in action. Is the pastor being used to place an earnest desire in the hearts of the listeners to stay in the presence of GOD, or are they trying to get them to stay tuned for next weeks show.
It does not matter how great the theatrics are, nor does it matter how big the show is, if the congregation is not leaving wanting GOD more than anything else in this world.
If lives are not truly changing, and spiritual maturity levels and the desires of people are not pressing toward GOD, the pulpit may as well be empty. It is not enough to come on Sunday and raise our hands, then Monday place GOD back in the back seat until we can meet again.
The gospel when preached in simplicity and sincerity will change lives, it will increase the desires of the listeners to seek GOD and enhance their personal walks with HIM more and more, if the church you attend does not do this, then I would recommend that you begin searching for a church that does.
If the message a pastor is speaking is anointed and SPIRIT filled, it is impossible for anyone to leave without meditating and allowing the life changing force of the SPIRIT OF GOD to work in their lives. It does not take tears to flow on demand, or emphasis on certain words it only takes the congregation coming to seek GOD and only HIS voice.
I pray that each person that reads this, truly look within themselves, and not worry about what a pastor says, or how emotional he can say it, but truly seek the heart of GOD in all matters and seek GODS voice through the voice of one who speaks. Truly seeking the life changing WORD of GOD and what HE is saying to us personally, not wanting a show, or a great theatrical play, but seek you GOD and HIS kingdom in all things, being willing to be the extension of JESUS we are all called to be.
