THERE'S A MAN IN THE GLORY

There's a man in the glory whose life is for me.
He's pure and he's holy, triumphant and free.
He's wise and he's loving, how tender is he!
His life in the glory my life must be;
His life in the glory my life must be.

There's a man in the glory whose life is for me.
He overcame Satan; from bondage he's free.
In life he is reigning; how kingly is he!
His life in the glory my life must be.

There's a man in the glory whose life is for me.
In him is no sickness; no weakness has he.
He's strong and in vigour; how buoyant is he!
His life in the glory my life must be.

There's a man in the glory whose life is for me.
His peace is abiding; how patient is he!
He's joyful and radiant, expecting to see
His life in the glory lived out in me;
His life in the glory lived out in me!

Mary E. McDonough
Tune: O Come All Ye Faithful
"Far above all", above the immediate heavens, of which Satan is, "the prince of the power of the air"; above even the sidereal heavens, having, "passed through" them, the stars which made the Psalmist marvel at God's condescension towards, "man..the son of man"; all the way to, "the third heaven", the very, "heaven of heavens" - "on the right hand of the throne of God" - THERE SITS A MAN!
He is Jesus the Nazarene, whom God, "hath made this same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, to be both Lord and Christ".

WHY IS HE THERE?
Because he deserves to be there. He is, "worthy".

1. Because he was willing to let go his divine glory; he, "emptied himself", descending from, "the form of God", to, "the form of a servant", to both God and man.
2. Because he was willing to take a place, "inferior to angels" to be, "made in the likeness of men"; to, "partake of flesh and blood", and call himself, "the son of man".
3. Because he was willing, upon, "coming into the world", to come only, "to do thy will, O God", only to, "glorify the Father", to, "manifest His name", and, "to finish His work".
4. Because he who, "made the worlds", was willing to be, "made like unto his brethren", and, "suffer himself, being tempted", so that he could be, not only in title, but in reality, "a merciful and faithful high priest", and, "succor them that are tempted".
5. Because for our sakes he was willing to suffer the derision and slander of the religious leaders, who mocked him because of the very low place he took; in which place he said, "I receive not honour from men".
6. Because he was willing to come, "not to be ministered to, but to minister", to the sick and wretched, to, "wash the feet", of his own disciples and bear with their, "unbelief', and, "slowness of heart". He who was, "born a king", could say with perfect sincerity, "I am meek and lowly in heart".
7. Because he was willing to be thrown together, "with the transgressors", to, "bear his cross", and to, "suffer outside the gate", in the place of ignominy.
8. BUT MOST OF ALL, because he was willing to surrender his will, to, "drink the cup", which, "the Father gave him". Much worse than dying, it was the wrath and, "forsaking of God", the anticipation of which brought him to, "an agony", in prayer and made his sweat become, "as it were, great drops of blood falling down upon the ground".

2.

These are only some of the many reasons why we love him - and why the Father loves him and, "has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name". It is why God, "would not suffer His holy one to see corruption", but, "raised him up and gave him glory", "angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him". He glorified God in his life; he put away our sins in his death. He was the willing one; he is the worthy one, the man, Jesus of Nazareth, to whom God said, "Sit thou at my right hand..." And when he was revealed to John in the Revelation, he saw that, ".. upon his head were many crowns".
And now from heaven, he has given us, "the promise of the Father", the, "unspeakable gift", the, "Holy Spirit", "the Spirit of Jesus Christ", that we may be in union with and in conscious nearness to "the man in the glory".

I.) He has promised that if we, "eat the flesh and drink the blood", of the humiliated, crucified son of man, we can, "abide", in the heavenly, glorified son of man. What a wonder!

II.) He has promised to those who, "bear about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus", that, "the life also of Jesus might be manifested in our mortal flesh". What an honor!

III.) He has promised us that, "as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly". What a future!

"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness,
hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" II Cor.4:6
