When your five years old there is only one way to sing, with all your heart and at the top of your lungs. Christy was sitting in the backseat of mom’s car singing “Stranded in the middle of a hurricane, I've got an umbrella but nowhere to stay, do I give up now or do I face the cold I better get some boldness”.
Mom laughs and smiles in the mirror at the singing prodigy. Mom’s trying to figure out if Christy even knows what those words really mean. “Here we are, time to get groceries.” Mom says as she pulls into the parking lot. There is an open space mom goes to pull in when out of nowhere a huge SUV pulls in and nearly hit’s mom’s car. Christy screams and Mom says some words Christy has never heard her say before.
Now they are driving around the parking lot looking for a place to park. Christy’s happy feeling is gone. Mom is angry and the radio is off. Finally after what seems to be a hundred hours to Christy Mom pulls in to a space and now they have to walk from the back of the parking lot to the store.
Christy starts singing the song she heard in the car mom shhh’s her and says “not now honey”. Christy looks at the floor as Mom puts her in the cart. Christy likes to sing, it makes her happy especially to Jesus. Maybe Mom doesn’t like that song.
“Ugh, I forgot my coupons.” Christy smiles at mom, she doesn’t notice as she rummages through her purse. Christy starts to hum anther song that she likes. “Honey people don’t want to hear you singing or humming right now, you’re too loud.”
Christy is confused, on Sunday mom and dad sing loud with their hands in the air. They said it doesn’t matter if you don’t sound perfect just as long as you sing to Jesus. Christy ask Mom “why can’t I sing to Jesus hear in the grocery store?” Mom stopped and looked down at this gift she has sitting in front of her and says “ I don’t know, go ahead sweetie sing, sing with all your heart, just not all of your voice.”
The rest of the day Mom smiled and hummed while Christy sang songs to Jesus.
