Are You a Thankful Person?
by Dan Langerock

Have you ever asked yourself this question? What you find when you answer it may surprise you. Be honest as you answer the following questions and at the end you will have a pretty good idea whether you are a thankful person or not.

For the most part, do you dwell mentally on the good or bad things that happen to you?

Have you always been the choice you gave in the last question?

If there was a change, when in your life did it occur and why.
\
When bad things happen, do you tend to blame God or draw closer to Him

Would you characterize the friends you have as mostly positive or negative people?

How does their attitude affect you when you are with them?

Do you acknowledge your blessings as much as the bad things that happen. In other words, do you tell others about the blessings in your life as much as you broadcast when things go wrong?

When you were growing up, were your family and friends positive or negative people? Did you change your outlook because of them or did you remain the same?
Are you a thermometer or a thermostat? Do you allow others to determine your moods or are you proactive and set the mood of those around you?

If you put a percentage on the time you spend complaining or being thankful, what number would that be?

Are you an introspective person, one who can evaluate themselves to correct what needs attention without being told by others?

Do you regularly evaluate your words and actions as a sort of self-improvement mode. It can be helpful to replay situations you have been through during the day so you can look at how you responded in any given situation, and how you can improve on what happened as a result.

Do you listen to what you say, or do you just blurt out whatever comes to mind?

Are you thankful for those who share your life or do you run roughshod over their feelings etc.

When you die, will others remember you a thankful person?

Do you look for things to be thankful about or do they have to be called to your attention by others? If the aforementioned is true, what keeps you from seeing the blessings of your life?

Are you thankful only when things are going well or do you look for blessings even when bad things happen?

Is there someone you admire who is a thankful person? What other attributes do you admire about them?

Do you equate thankfulness with contentment both in the physical as well as the spiritual realm? Why or why not?

Are you passing along your thankful attitude to your family and others as your legacy?

Is your life something people admire or disdain?

Do you need someone else to make you happy or are you already happy within yourself?

Is Thanksgiving the only time during the year you think about your blessings or do you have a lifestyle of thankfulness?

What are the factors that contribute to make a thankful person, such as environment etc?

What part if any does your spirituality play in your thankful attitude?Do you attribute your blessings to yourself or to God?

As you can see, thankfulness is not a superficial thing but very involved when you stop to analyze its different spheres of origin etc. You became a person with complex attitudes, but one doesn't normally sit down and think about how you came to be the way you are. Now take the information you have gained and use it to better yourself and correct the areas that need fixing, if any. Always remember that you are not living on an isolated island, but influencing people around you everyday. What that influence consists of can only be determined by you. Happy Thanksgiving to all my wonderful readers!
