Being the Best
A good aim, not a garland.
A good goal, not a goad;
The ideal, not an idol
A focus, friend to take you to the end
Not a fiend to frighten
Not a starting point but the end
Progressive, little by little
Not punitive
Not burdensome or oppressive
Leading to condemnation,
But challenging, leading to promotion.
Brings self discipline
Not self destruction.
It’s giving the best to the Best
Who gave His best, the First
It’s pressing on, reaching forth,
Self critique, not self indulgence.
It’s trading mediocrity
Inch by inch for excellence.
It’s giving glory to the Holy
Not faking, being phoney.
It’s failing and trying again.
It’s falling and rising again
Knowing that, it’s not over
Until it’s over.
