The greatest gift my daddy gave
To me was just his time.
This precious memory that I have
Did not cost him one dime.
No matter what the time or place,
If daddy knew I needed
His lap or ear for anything
It never went unheeded.
I was the apple of his eye
And he was my protector
He listened to my every word
And never yelled or lectured.
Daddy taught me many things
And we took long walks alone
He read to me quite often
He was the leader in our home.
I remember daddy praying
As he lead us through hard times
He taught me how to do the same
For the babies that are mine.
When I walked down the aisle
On my precious wedding day
Daddy's hand in mine did linger
Before he gave me away.
Daddy's time he spent with me
Left a legacy within
For daddy's top priority
Made him my closest friend.

Cheryl, very nice. I was never all that close to my parents, so your column hit as a "wow that would have been really nice" type piece. Very well written. Sincerely, Dan Blankenship
