One's options loom without limit
As the advent of fall and winter holidays approach.
And choices we assume may on our sanity encroach;
We may take for granted those things for which we should give thanks
And recognize not, the genuine meaning of Christmas;
Giving it the honor to which it truly ranks.
Options are vast and diverse, and one chooses
The high road of value, or the frivolity of 'keeping up'.
Fall and winter holidays are indeed, treasure,
Affording the opportunity to be involved in their warmth and pleasure.
Resolve that options are exercised which build and sustain,
Not merely an accumulation of debt...offering only year long pain.
Smile at the stranger on the street,
Allowing NOT the frantic pace to rob and defeat.
Recall the Pilgrims at that first festival of survival,
Remember the Christchild and His humble arrival;
And be grateful in heart, soul and spirit...
One's responsible option.
Your poem has a valuable message that many should pay heed to but ignore. The poem is timely as we approach this yuletide season, so I'll take the opportunity to wish you God's blessings and a Happy Xmas.
