When I was growing up long ago, fall was the time of year when lots of folks went to the county fairs, and how I wished I could be part of that crowd, to see all the sights, feel the excitement in the air.
I never got to go when I was a kid, my parents were too busy to take me, so it was many long years before I was able to go and really see.
I visited my cousin, we were a silly pair, but off to the county fair we went, to see the sights, feel the excitement of the midway, and fill our noses with that special "fair' scent.
Oh, it was such fun to wander around, every path had different sights for us to see, the lights and the music, the frantic pace that swirled around, a whole different world laid out in front of me.
We explored all night, watching others play, seeing their excitement as sometimes they would win, but we were just spectators there, for without money we were on the outside looking in.
It reminded me of what my life was like in the years before I met you - when I felt like I was always the one who was waiting for my dreams to come true.
I could see those dreams, so lovely they were, but so far away from me; I never thought they would ever become something real, things I could touch and see.
So I wandered around, going down this path, then that, looking for something I never could find, until I saw Jesus holding out His hand to me, He'd been there all along, patiently waiting, how could I have been so blind?
I allowed Him in to rule my heart, and what changes He wrought from the inside out - he gave me a new heart and new eyes to see what His world was all about.
No longer a spectator wishing for more, for God showed me that dreams can come true, for when I was ready, He gave me a treasure, a new life and love I would have with you!
Now every day is filled with joy, beauty and light, grace and peace are ours
to share; and my dreams come true, my wishes are fulfilled, because I know
you are there.
