“But God commendeth His Love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Sweeter than honey. More intoxicating than wine.
So is the “smell” of Grace to a lost soul.
It’s amazing how certain smells can provoke the nostrils (or sounds, the minds) to a place long ago.
But the “smell” of Grace beats them all. It stirs and provokes the soul to the foot of the cross.
As a pot being stirred with tantalizing aromas floating up to greet you, so does the “smell” of Grace in the hardness of the heart.
It does not care about past failures or mistakes. Nor does it harps on past deeds.
It simply meets you right where you are: a sinner.
God's unmerited favor. It’s not earned nor bought.
Just given.
It has one pre-requisite: you have to admit you’re a sinner.
When you are lost, you can be found. When you can’t find your way is when you can be sought out.
Like a pot of stew, brewing to completion, welcoming you home after a long, exhausting day, its contents provoking your taste buds. It has one pre-requisite: just be hungry.
So is Grace to a dying soul. It provokes the soul to “taste and see that the Lord is good.”
