The 'Language of Flowers' the ivy is the emblem of friendship and faithfulness, not merely because it clings to old ruins, preserving them from hurt by wind and rain, or because it holds firmly around the trunk with its twines, but because it gives shelter to the birds in cold winters, and a snug hiding place for a nest before the trees are in leaf, and provides a feast for faint and hungry insects, when other flowers have withered under frost, but if I were asked to give the ivy a good name, I would call it "FRIEND IN NEED!"
