Jesus, Be My Lord Apart From Being My Savior

By Deline Tan

In the eyes of the Lord, everyone is precious in His sight. However, how we live our lives will determine whether the Lord approves of our living. What are some of the steps that we can take to walk with God, that shows ourselves completely pleasing and yielded to Him?

First, we must be his children in order to be able to know and walk with Him. Salvation is paramount to our Christian faith. We must be born again, and we must be baptized by the water, Word and the Spirit. This is the beginning of our Christian walk. Subsequently, we take a step further by acknowledging that He is our Lord apart from being our Savior. These two are not the same. He is our Savior as He died on the cross for our sins. However, He can only be our Lord if we fully surrender our all to Him, do all that He asks us to do, and obey Him unconditionally.

It is through walking and working the outward life in Christ that we are yielded to Him. God has called us to lead a holy life, fully and completely surrendered to Him. In the outworking of our walk with Him, He will place us in a refining fire through trials and temptations, and as we overcome and rise up to the occasions where we allow Him to prune and chisel us, that we can be refined as gold and silver. The process is painful, yet at the end it bears the fruit of righteousness and the result is eternal life.

Nobody like to suffer, but it is through suffering that we gain the mark of Christ and able to identify ourselves with Him. If we want to be His followers, we must be willing to take up our cross daily and follow Him. Matthew 10:38. Dying to self is one of the most difficult task that all of us experience, but however, when we have been yielded to it, it bears the fruits of righteousness.

God wants intimacy with us. He wants us to be utterly dependent on Him so that we will not go our own way. Being yielded to Christ is the mark of a disciple. In order to be His disciple, we must take Him as Lord – Lord of our lives and everything. There is so much to glean and learn from our Lord as we walk closely with Him. He will teach us His Word and guide every step of our ways. The Christian journey is exciting because God is taking us to the way of His light. We can live in heaven while on earth, by bringing His presence down on earth.

God gladly directs and leads us if we are willing to take the first step to say to Him – “Jesus, be my Lord apart from being my savior.”
