"And again, Peter denied it. And immediately a rooster crowed." John 18:27
Can you hear the rooster crowing
Not once
Not twice
but the third time?
A distinct reminder
of your unfaithfulness
of your betrayal
of your sin
Stubborn and self-centered
unworthy wickedness
that creeps into our hearts
and attacks
our conceited conscience
It calls us back
our warning shriek
We've gone too far
We've stepped out
of obedience
"Come back to me, wounded and weary..."
He doesn't peck at our brow
or flap in our faces
One lone crow at a time
Calling and waiting
for us to turn
turn and fall
at the feet
of His mercy
and grace
And there,
there
we can find
a new start
When we face
our inadequacies
When we seek
His way
and surrender
our will
