I have been privileged to be among this number from the very beginning.
I've witnessed everything He's done and everything He's said.
When His great heart beat faster out of love for His earthly parents, I felt the stir.
When He longed to gather the lost ones into His arms, some of that ache reverberated through me.
When His anger flashed against those who were desecrating His Father's house, I felt the boil of His blood.
As His time approached, then grew shorter, I could feel some of the pressure He felt to groom His disciples and make them the men of God they would have to be. He knew they would have to be prepared to carry the Gospel message to the world, and also that terrible punishments would be coming their way all too soon.
So He chose, yet again, to set an example for them by giving Himself over to the forces that had been rumbling against Him almost from the start of His ministry. The Son of God was sentenced to be executed, and we would be observers of it, we ourselves, from within Him.
For I am a drop of blood from the veins of mankind's Savior, Jesus.
Many of us were lost during the anguished midnight prayer session in the garden, yet we stayed the course.
The beating He suffered at the hands of the guards spilled out even more of our assembly, and we noticed the weakening of His physical being.
After the flogging, the blood loss became critical, yet He carried on, propelled by His determination.
The placement of the cruel crown of thorns brought a new flow of His lifeblood; and we, once the many, became endangered, dwindling with every step that jarred the rough timber He bore, then simply with every movement.
During the crucifixion, we knew the end was very near, and we struggled to understand how His journey could have come to this: how could God die? How could He allow it?
As I seeped out of His body and soaked into the wood of the cross, I understood all. His entire human experience, from the first flash of life within Mary's womb to now, had been carefully constructed for this purpose, and had been moving toward this day.
He had come to this point one step at a time, carrying out God's plan through the ultimate good voyage.
He died, and nothing was the same.
