Is there a place in heaven
Where I can hide?
A spot where love and happiness
Do not abide?
I want peace and rest
For a little while,
From all the happy people
That demand I smile.
Truth and simplicity
I am a friend,
But this frown of mine
Seems to descend
And every sign shows
I offend
The joyous folks
With witty jokes.
With their words of encouragement
I do not change,
Protecting through discouragement
Praying me out of range,
They prove me to be leaven
With sadness I see,
In their heaven
There is no room for me.
