Encouragement
In recent weeks I have been trying to get back on schedule with my life. After our return from Africa, I lost a family member. This week I go to Texas to celebrate the wedding of my third son Tim. Life’s demanding agenda at times will take us away from the rigorous schedules we are so used to keeping.
On my way to Oklahoma three weeks ago I was leaving to be with a dying family member. As I started my car I said a prayer that was something like this. “Okay God, I know it is a small thing, but it would really be nice if you could fix this cruise control. This trip will seem twice as long without it. In Jesus Name, Amen”
Just a few days before, I had a friend of ours look at it to see if he could fix it, since he used to do this for a living. Finding that he could not, because it is computerized, I decided I better get it in the shop and get it fixed. The next day, I found myself needing to leave the following morning for Oklahoma, with no opportunity to get the car to the shop.
As I said my final amen to the prayer, I turned the key in the ignition and began to drive out of town. When it was time to use the cruise control, I pressed the “cruise on” button with the same faith in my heart as I had a few minutes prior. After two weeks of no cruise control, my car was cruising as if nothing had ever happened. I began to rejoice and thank God for His loving care for me. Then as I drove on I asked one more thing… “Lord, just one more thing..it would be nice if you would help this shoulder of mine to not hurt anymore today, since I am taking another long trip.”
I had been having some severe shoulder pain. When I got to the end of my journey, I realized my shoulder did not hurt. I was extremely grateful because driving seems to irritate it more than anything. Talking to my husband earlier in the day I said, “Since I am in God’s favor today, if you have any prayer request let me know what they are. I seem to have His ear right now.” I smiled as I remembered the verse that says,
"For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. ..” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
Does your heart belong to God or someone else? Do you realize that God is seeking out those who dare to trust Him? Have you trusted Him to do something in your life and witnessed His Omnipotent hand move? My life is filled with one testimony after another of His redeeming sufficient grace and how He has established my steps in order to trust Him more. (Psalm 37:23)
My prayer is that you will be encouraged to trust God in not only the big things in your life but the little things as well. He definitely cares for those He calls His own!
