Is it any wonder
That our children are broken and crying.
Is it any wonder that so many
Are lost and dying.
They don’t have a hope or a future
Is it any wonder.
Baby born with bright eyes
Sees the world with wonder
Nurtured at his mothers breast
Fathers’ love is tender.
Then the ones he trusts and loves
Are torn asunder
Where’s my home and who am I
Is it any wonder.
Six years old and home from school
No one's home the neighbor's cruel
Never learned the golden rule
Is it any wonder.
12 years old and failing school
tries real hard but he can’t be cool
so he turns to dope and he breaks the rules
and is it any wonder
He’s 18 now and we call it fate
When his girlfriend tells him she’s two months late
And we shake our heads at his dumb mistake
And is it any wonder
Well we’ve written him off and
We’ve called him bad
But he never really had a mom or dad.
They were too busy living out the latest fad
So is it any wonder.
Is it any wonder
That our children are lost and crying.
Is it any wonder that so many
Are lost and dying.
They don’t have a hope or a future
Is it any wonder.
What might have happened
to these precious girls and boys
If we gave them more of loving
And we gave them fewer toys
If we showed them every day
they were our pride and joy.
I wonder, oh I wonder.
