My fortress and deliverer,
This, my Lord, the Rock;
The God of my strength,
My very precious trust.
The shield of my rest,
My salvation from all violence;
My stronghold and my refuge;
His love, my heart’s silence.
When death surrounds me;
By ungodliness, made afraid;
In distress I called to Him,
Sent Himself, and I am saved.
The earth quaked violently;
The roots of heaven shaken,
Because He was most angry;
In salvation I’m not forsaken;
Smoke poured from His nostrils;
From His mouth welled holy fire;
Coals kindled by His presence;
My enemies knew His sacred ire.
He’s seen upon the wind,
While darkness is around Him;
Rides upon His mighty angel;
My victory against all sin;
He sent from above,
Drew me out of many waters;
My protective love,
Even for my sons and daughters.
2 Samuel 22
