A grain of wheat must fall and die,
If not, it remains alone;
But if it dies, it produces much grain,
And the glory of God is shown.
Those who live to love their life,
Will lose it, with all they see;
He who hates this same life,
Will have it for eternity.
I see now, and more and more,
This blessed simple truth;
As His love remains with me
This conviction is my proof.
If I serve Him, I must die,
Or I will never follow;
All my claims to the Christ,
Are then, pathetically hollow.
I must reckon me to be dead,
That this life is a goner;
And as I serve my precious Lord,
My Father will, for me, honor.
Many are appalled by the cross,
For the sin that it’s addressing;
Yet, this same cross, I have found,
Has been my greatest blessing.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.”—John 12:24-26
