You ran a little faster than the rest,
And climbed much higher than we may have gone.
When throwing rocks, you ALWAYS showed us up;
Yours sailed beyond, into another zone!
You caught more fish than anyone each time;
A slimy worm, to you, was no 'big deal.'
You'd bait your hook with fingers swift and sure
While all the other girls would gag and squeal.
But then one day in Spring, the mirror saw
An image that had changed to dress from jeans,
And in an instant, as I stood amazed
My tomboy friend was transformed to a QUEEN!
In looking back, recalling I was one
Well-beaten by your expertise, it's true,
Was just another 'victim' of your skills,
(Impressing those who'd tried to impress you.)
And now in reverie, my thoughts return;
To 'best' that tomboy friend, I still would try.
Yet, far beyond MY league, excelling as
The caterpillar...now a butterfly!

You make writing poems seem so easy and yet like your tomboy friend you excel and beat us every time.
Being that I was a tomboy, I greatly enjoyed this! Your biggest fan, Rochelle
