Why did we do it, why spend our best?
And why did they spend themselves?
There will always be more questions
But one answer rings out
For all to know--
They "loved not their lives unto death"
So that others could simply live.
Some that cringe from conflict,
Preferring resolution and
Peace that cost nothing--
The resolution of the blind and
The peace of the deaf--
Imagine evil has no weapons against right,
But evil, with subtle slyness,
Is often pronounced by merely good men.
Yet love is a rugged thing,
And shrinks not from the darkness
But like the light shines brighter
For the challenge.
Love sees through the evil every time
And enters the fray
That night is limited,
That only when darkness flees
Can peace truly reign.
Love has its disciples
Who are not afraid to fight,
Not afraid to die
For the truth in their hearts.
Why did they go?
It was the right thing to do.
