Ponder the thought of one of those events that takes place in our life where we will never see life the same again. One of those events whether it be a close encounter with death such as a car accident or a near miss, or maybe a life threatening illness that we manage to live through and have a new perspective on life, where our relationship with the Lord is forever changed. That is the “Blessed afterward ” I’m talking about.
The bible is all about those types of events. How things were before and after. The Isrealites being delivered from Pharoh ,the blind and lame being healed, those that were thought to be dead brought back to life, The calming of the seas. How things were perceived before and after the events had taken place. Having that contrasting view to see things from ,then seeing Gods hand in them.
Consider the thought of loving the Lord with ones whole heart ,that His word in scripture brings about the “Blessed Afterward” every day, Where we are growing and alive, “He is living in us and we are living in Him” as scripture so often describes.
I am not talking about the experiences themselves but the new view of things, the “Blessed afterward.”
Where we can exclaim, "why didn’t I see that before!” Praise the Lord for His blessing!
If we are truly growing as Christians we look to those times and can see how the Lord is and has been working in our lives. We now have a new perspective of things, before and after and can see His hand in the events.
I often look at how my life was before I was born again, and now the way I view things. I now live in the “Blessed afterward.”
Like a great journey , we shall never go backwards ,but forever moving forward.
Through daily scripture reading and pondering His word I have inspirational moments that I am blessed with and can thankfully say have changed my life Profoundly.
I cannot be true to the thought of the “Blessed afterward” in my own life without describing one of the most important events of my life. To describe how this unfolded I will have to go back , even before I was a teenager.
I might have been 9or 10 when my mother began instructing me about being judgmental toward others.
It seemed the lectures were endless and I never got the drift of her message. I was just too immature to understand. Then when I was 39 years old and shortly after I had experienced Christ in my life in a real and meaningful way, It all came home to me. I then knew what she was talking about and lecturing me on.
All things are in His timing, that I had to come to a place in my life where I could honestly say I loved the Lord more than myself. Through my experience of being born again that took place. Then the second step
Came into view, I then realized how important it was to love ones neighbor . One cannot love their neighbor as he calls us to do if we continue to be judgmental toward them in anyway. God doesn’t say “pick and choose who you should love,” but ,“Love your neighbor”, plain and simple!
This isn’t something that happens overnight either. One must be persistent in the belief that it is commanded and it can be achieved, Only through being persistent and believing in Him and what He commands us to do.
I look at what is revealed to me, now see it through the eyes of the “Blessed Afterward.”
The feeling that comes forth is nothing short of amazing. I am profoundly grateful and stand in awe at His mercy and Love for me. So the purpose of the experience or experiences then is clearly seen , to draw us closer to Him and His ultimate truth. That He is love and everything we encounter and experience in this life is to show forth His glory through His love. Even the things that seem to be so negative and we find it difficult to draw any positive out of , seen through the eyes of belief, that it is His love for us ,become experiences that draw us closer to Him and his ultimate truth, That He loves us unconditionally and unceasingly.
The life threatening illness or the accident that could have taken our lives or what ever event we encounter becomes His tool to draw us into the viewpoint of the “Blessed afterward”, where we can praise Him and magnify His glory in all things. Experience after experience, drawing us toward Him.
If we believe and keep our focus on that and weather any doubts that should assail us in our efforts toward that, we should come out the other side and see the Blessed afterward. Eventually we should as believers see His hand in things drawing us toward Him.
Today I can read psalm 139 and gain much insight into His loving provision for me ,from before I even knew of Him, He was molding me .
Every event and episode that I endured in my childhood is contained in His provision for me.
Good and bad alike, I now see them as molding me and forming me and making me who I am today and that is why I think and see as I do.
Today in scripture I can exclaim as the psalmist in psalm 139, “How precious to me are your designs ,Oh Lord, How vast are the sum of them!” “I praise you, so wonderfully you made me; wonderful are your works! My very self you knew.”
I could not have declared this amazement without having the vision of “ Blessed Afterward” I know the events I went through as a child and I can now claim them , His molding me into who I am. Both good and bad left in His Hands, all proclaim His glory.
