The Emmaus Journal
Disciples of Jesus Christ have faced many perils throughout History. Today, in the 21st Century, we as Believers also face many challenges, many persecutions, and yes, many enemies! As Over-comer's by Faith we are victorious because of Jesus Christ. He is our keeper and instills us with Holy Spirit power according to our purpose in God. Like our Brother Paul wrote to us in II Corinthians 4, (paraphrased)..." troubled, yet not distressed, perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken, cast down, but not destroyed; that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of ourselves"...
We have all come into times and seasons within our walk that are more difficult than other times. There are times we feel stretched beyond our beliefs and tried to the point of breaking. We also share in the mountaintop experiences along the way that are subliminal and ethereal in comparison. But, while on our Spiritual Journey we have the responsibility to faithfully reside on the sure Foundation of Faith that Jesus provides. Allowing Him to lead and guide us as we continue on. He knows our path and He knows exactly what we have need of. We can rest assured that the enemy of our soul will not be able to overtake us or keep us from our Divine Destiny. But, we do learn as we go, step by step, line upon line, and precept upon precept; as His Anointing Power quickens our walk in Life.
A poignant illustration that earmarks my record of Faith came to me one day while walking. (Walking being a therapeutic cleanser for my soul and spirit just as much as it is an exercise for my natural body's health) While walking I had purposely stepped off the sidewalk path to allow a couple of bicycle riders clearance to pass by. As I took a few steps alongside the paved walk, on the grass, I was instantly toppled to the ground. First onto my knees, (very interesting in itself) and then my hands sprung out to brace the 'head meets earth' collision that was upcoming. Thankfully, without much pain, I was able to quickly get up as the riders swiftly passed by with a 'Good Day'. Somehow feeling a bit miffed at their disinterested rudeness to my fall, I looked back to see what had been the cause. Lo and behold, there, semi-buried in the grass, was a coat hanger! Well as if that were not enough, then picture this! The coat hanger had been twisted to form a snare and remain undisclosed in the grass! Amazement gave way to indignation as I picked it up and surveyed the methodological devise that it had been shaped into. now I understood how the toe of my shoe had been caught abruptly to halt my stride and cause me to fall. I had been caught in a snare. Does that speak volumes or what? I'm sure the Holy Spirit will take off on this with each of you as required. But, to continue; I untwisted the snare end of the coat hanger and bent the whole thing up so it was absolutely unusable and would not harm anyone else. Ready to be disposed of with the rest of the trash. Finishing my walk, I had much to contemplate. Not knowing the who or why this was done in such a suburban setting, but knowing many children walked the same path everyday to and from school; I was glad none of them would be a victim of such a fall or worse. For that alone I was content in the facts. Till the Holy Spirit started igniting me with more truth.
Who sets such snares in our spiritual lives? No one except our adversary, the Devil! The purpose, to catch Believers unaware! Just as the hunter will do in the woods to catch the intended quarry. The hunter will set a snare along the path of the quarry where it usually traverses through the woods. The hunter knows its prey and exactly how to effectually hide his snare. The snare is so devised as to catch the limb of the prey as it is walking along its path. So once it is set and once it is happened upon the snare holds its victim captive. As if that were not enough, the now fearful prey struggles for release from the snare, only to find it tighten it hold the more it struggles. With the struggle, exhaustion soon sets in for the victimized prey and actual injury is incurred upon the snared limb. The snare has done its job! Exhausted, weak, and injured (many prey actually die in there struggle) the hunter now has easy pickins. Another solid blow usually does the final job, if death has not already occurred. That too speaks volumes! At least in the natural the purpose for the hunter is usually food orientated, for our adversary it is another thing altogether.
If we can be snared, our adversary knows, we too will struggle like any other victim. Causing us to become spiritually exhausted, causing spiritual weakness and ineffectiveness. Our enemy tries to stymie the purpose of our calling in Christ Jesus, to cause us to change our path and our decisions in Faith. To get us into a state of unbelief. If our adversary can postpone or ensnare us, thus gaining an advantage over us, there must also be a remedy for this situation.
Remember, our adversary thought Jesus Christ was defeated at the cross! But, because of Jesus Christ, we too share in the final victory that was won! The cross was purposefully used to gain the victory over the adversary once and for all, and it IS our victory as well! Because, thru Jesus Christ we are set free from the snare of the fowler! No matter who, what, when, or where, or why. IF we are snared (and believe me, we will all know when we are snared) we can instantly look to Jesus Christ and be released from the struggle of the snare! ... "The snare is broken and we are escaped for our help is in the name of our Lord " ... Calling upon Jesus right away!
This is our remedy, our advantage over the snare of our adversary. Looking to Jesus and His Blood upon or lives instantly show us that the Devil cannot hold on to us any wit! The snare is broken, because of the Blood already given, that sets our spiritual feet in the Kingdom of God and we no longer are prey to this adversary or the snares! Once we acknowledge, in Belief, that our enemy has no ownership or authority in our lives or toward our lives, the struggle ends. Do you hear this as I hear this! Our adversary recognizes Jesus and the authority He has in our lives. Until, then we struggle with all the snares the enemy can put into our paths, be it in the spirit, the soul, or our physical body. But in Faith knowing that Jesus Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith (and not our adversary) we are set free. The adversary cannot ensnare us anymore! We are ... 'wise as serpents and harmless as doves'... The snares are for set for others who are unaware of what Jesus completed; and have perhaps walked off the given path that Jesus provides.
For... 'there is a path that the fowler knows not!'... Seek out THAT path and be content to follow Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit with YOU!
