Using What God Gives You

It was November, 2004 while Jeff Roberson was replacing a burnt out light fixture when his youngest daughter, Angela, 9, came to him. “Daddy, what are you doing this Thursday?” Jeff told his daughter that he had nothing scheduled on that day. After he came home from work he had planned to so some things around the house.
“Daddy, can you come to my school and watch me play basketball? We start our games this Thursday night and I’d like you to be there more than anything daddy.”
Jeff agreed and promised that he would be at her game. After he agreed to be there, he noticed that she had a worried look on her face. Then Angela said, “Daddy, I’m not sure that I will get to play in the game but I really want you to be there if I get a chance. I know I’m not the best player on the team. I’ll try hard to help my team if I do get in.”
“I’ll be there princess!”
When Thursday came, Angela was extremely excited. “Well, daddy this is the first day of the season for us. I’m so excited. The game starts at 6 o’clock.
When the time arrived, Angela did not play in the first period. However, in the second period, she was put into the game. She looked up into the stands and saw her father sitting there smiling and cheering her on. Minutes after the period began, the ball was passed to Angela who took a shot and missed. Two plays later Angela was given the ball again underneath the basket. Once again Angela missed because she was fouled as she shot the ball. On the free throw line, she missed the first shot but made the second. Angela had scored a point. A smile came on her face as she came out of the game to sit on the bench. Angela received one more opportunity in the game but did not score.
At the end of the game, Angela cam running off of the bench to the waiting arms of her father who had come down to the first row of seats to greet her. “Daddy did you see me? Did you see me play? I did my best daddy!”
As Jeff held his excited and pleased daughter, he would never be more humbly grateful then that day when his youngest child did her very best in a basketball game. Likewise, God, our Heavenly Father, watches us both near and far. He rejoices with our every accomplishment and is supportive even when we miss our earthly or eternal goals on earth. Invite the Lord to the activities of your everyday life. He WILL be there to wrap His loving arms about you no matter what!
