The Poison of Me

Dig down, bury me deep
In a hole with no room to creep
My canvas falls and is ripped in two
The one I used to fool all of you
Drink of my poison, drink of my cup,
Drink 'til all the liquid's drunk up
I am the thief that goes bump in the night,
Don't let me slip out of your sight
I'll hurt you and kill you and steal all your joy,
Then throw you away like a dirty old toy
Dig down, look at my soul,
Take my hand, join me in my hole
My smile, my mask shattered your view,
Now you will see what I've done to you
Taste of my wickedness, taste of your fears,
Taste of the bitterness that brings you to tears
I am the wolf that leads you astray,
Pain, the result of all the cruel things I say
I'll rip you apart, so it's best if you see,
The last thing you want is the poison of "me"
Dig down, see what's within,
I am what causes the burden of sin
My deception, my lies, I drew you so near,
That even with 20/20 you couldn't see clear
Listen to my whispers, listen to my lies,
Listen to the sound of your heart when it dies
I am destruction to your very life,
I will only bring you more regret and strife
I'll tear out your heart and toss it out the door,
After you beg me "No more, no more!"
Dig down, look inside,
You'll see what I no longer hide
My costume mangled, I fooled you all!
But now it's time for the curtain call
Feel the pangs of sorrow, feel them in your heart,
Feel them as you feel my love slowly depart
I am forever guilty for the pain I put you through,
Now you'll watch more closely with others around you
I have ripped your world apart
I have trampled your shattered heart
I have let you taste for free
The bitter flavour of poison "me".

God is Not Against You - He Came on an All Out Rescue Mission to Save You

...in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them... 2 Cor 5:19

Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Acts 13:38

This is very well written, and yes it's dark, but it reminds me of the passeges in Proverbs that worn of the Woman of Folly... Very good warning.

Brandi, if you haven't already, you might want to consider sending this poem to some of those researchers who study cults. It would make an excellent and poignant prologue to their commentary. You have a gift for writing, and I'm glad you are sharing it with us.
