Genesis 3:7 “…..and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.”
I was talking to a long time friend of mine recently engaged. I asked him point blank….are you clean? He knew what I meant! “Yea, its tough” he replied. “We are, but cannot keep our hands off each other. We almost drove to Vegas the other night!” My friend is 30, a virgin, and a solid Christian. He has had more opportunities then you or I could dream of. He has chosen the high road, but is struggling as of late. June and Hawaii are a constant topic.
I want to show you something profound if you are dating, engaged, and cannot keep your hands off! Adam touched the forbidden, and did what most guys do …..grab for the closest leaf in the garden to hide and justify themselves “…..We’re engaged and almost married anyways! How can it be wrong if we really love each other! My parents did it! It’s only a piece of paper! God knows our heart! We didn’t go alllll the way! Sound familiar?”
We know Adam was in the garden! He must have known where and had access to many large plants and tree leaves. He was a professional gardener for Pete sake! In my research, I went to Tip Top Nursery and found a fig leaf. I was shocked at how tiny they were! If I was buck, I definitely would have reconsidered! I thought, “why would Adam grab for a puny fig leaf when he had access to large palm branches, elephant ear leafs, and giant banana leafs!” I’ll tell you why? It was quick, low to the ground, convenient and required little strength to tear off. Are you seeing it? The fogged windows in your back seat will never produce strength in your relationship with her or Jesus. She is waiting for you to offer your manhood in other Godly ways. Not fig pulling! Pee Wee Herman can do that!
See, the next thing Adam did was begin to sew the leaves on. Adam had to teach himself how to sew. Who showed him how? God, Eve, the monkeys? Please! He became creative and Ingenuitive in his quest for hiding his shameful nakedness! We can too! The bible declares in Psalms 29:9 “The voice of the Lord strips the forest bare.” If God’s voice right now is stripping your leaves off, let Him. He wants to cover you with new leaves; ones that grew on the tree He hung on. Leaves of real love, joy and peace in the Holy Ghost. He wants to clothe you in righteousness friend. He can and wants too! He wants you to return to the garden where you both can enjoy the cool of the evening again. Just a thought.

Interesting article and a good read, just a few too many mental images for me. I still have some drawers to clean out of course so for purists its probably very good advice. -Patrick
