Names for God and our Glorious Lord Part 3

After a glorious weekend in the presence of the Lord, I have been impressed by the Holy Spirit to share with you names for the heavenly father that are in plain and simple English language but no less effective or reverent.

Many years ago when I began my course of study for Christian Lay Ministry I came across many and varied schools of thought as it relates to how we address our ‘father’. Many like myself when worshipping refer to Him as ‘Abba’, which means father or ‘daddy’. Other times I [and I am sure you do as well] refer to him as the “rose of Sharon”, “lily of the valley” and “my strong tower” just to name a few. This study of scripture will shed some light on some other expressions used to call on the Lord, particularly during private prayer times or during worship.

Name and expressions

Expression: Ancient of Days – Daniel 7:1-14, Revelation 1:1-14
Is similar to “alpha and omega”

Expression: Balm of Gilead – Jeremiah 8
A source of comfort during tribulation

Expression: Rock of Ages – Isaiah 26:1-4
He is referred to here as ‘an everlasting rock’.

Expression: Altogether Lovely – Song of Solomon 5
Think of the worship song “O Lord you’re beautiful”

Expression: A Strong Tower – Psalm 61
He is a shelter in the time of storm.

Expression: My Shepherd – Psalm 23
We are the sheep of HIS pasture.

Expression: Master – Matthew 23:1-8, John 16:1-14, Luke 6:40
"Master, Speak thy servant heareth….”

Expression: The Christ – Matthew 16
“The Anointed One”

Expression: Nazarene – Matthew 2:1-23, Luke 1:26-28
Jesus of Nazareth.

Expression: Bread of Life – John 6:1-35
Think of the song “I am the Bread of Life…”

I stop here to allow you to meditate on the scriptures given in this segment of the study. Stay tuned and until then remember “HE IS THE GREAT PHYSICIAN”.
