'Where Is The Spirit?'

The Holy Spirit has been called the most effective agent in human life, but it is up to us to make it so! The Holy Spirit is Jesus, alive and well on Planet Earth and all that He was, can be appropriated by faith in our lives. The Three in One was never meant to be 'has beens', but present relationship and fellowship to face life and death.

D.L. Moody said, "I had rather live in the midst of Romans 8 than to live in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. Satan got to them while they were living in the Garden, but satan can NOT get to the Christian who is living in the midst of Romans 8."
Amen and amen!

In my website paper of 1-14-05, I asked the question, 'Are we ignorant of the Holy Spirit?' I gave an outline for you to study further on this great subject. Go back and check it out with your Bible which is the Sword of the Spirit.

My subject today is, 'Where is the Holy Spirit?' and I believe that we get the best answers in Romans 8.
It probably is the apostle Paul's strongest chapter on the Holy Spirit.

1) THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WHERE JESUS IS LORD: (Romans 7:24-25)
'Oh wretched man that I am...who shall deliver me? I thank God through Jesus Christ my Lord.'
He was a wretched man until Jesus saved him and filled (controlled him). There is a great old hymn that says: 'He is able to deliver you'. God is both faithful AND able. Before Christ, Paul served the sin of the flesh, but after Christ he served in the power of the Holy Spirit. Until he delivers you, a civil war is going on between the flesh and the spirit. Wars are not over until there is unconditional surrender and the war is not over in you, until there is unconditional surrender to the Spirit.

World War II ended in the Pacific when unconditional surrender was signed by the Japanese on the ship, Missouri. However, years later, there were some Japanese soldiers who were still fighting the war. How sad, but even moreso if Jesus is not Lord.

So, have YOU signed the unconditional surrender with Jesus?
Or is He Lord of 'some' things, but not Lord of 'all' things in your life?
The ball is in your court....what will you do with it?

2) THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WHERE THERE IS LIBERTY: (Romans 8:1)
'There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.'
Here, Paul deals with no condemnation, but the whole chapter also deals with NO separation and NO ultimate defeat.
We may lose some battles, but we will win the war!

In John 14, 15 and 16, Jesus prepared His disciples for the time that He would be leaving. He did it by emphasizing the Holy Spirit (see especially John 16:7-14)

II Corinthians 3: 17 ......'Now the Lord is that Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty. Jesus said, 'You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.' This should be our consuming passion, along with helping others to know and enjoy this freedom!
The law says, 'Try a little harder'.....Christ says, 'Trust a little more'. Too many are running on 'empty.

Recently our eldest son ran out of gas on his motorcycle, so he switched over to the other tank, not realizing that that tank was also empty! He said that it was 'not a pretty picture' as he stood there in full regalia, trying to hitch a ride. He finally called his brother (our 2nd son who is a State Trooper) who came to his rescue.
Thank you Jesus, for coming to OUR rescue and when you left, you sent the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:1 tells us, 'Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.' The ONLY way that this is completely true, is to live in the fulness of the Holy Spirit!
Don't ever forget that the water still flows (John 7:37-39)
and the wind still blows (John 3:8 and Acts 2:2)
and the fire still burns (Acts 2:3). WOW!

3) THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WHERE THERE IS LIFE: (Romans 8:3-13)
This section contrasts what 'the law' and 'walking after the flesh' can NOT do and 'walking in the Spirit' CAN do!
Verse 13 summarizes this section:
If you live after the flesh, you shall die; but if you through the spirit, mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live!
Jesus is our Great Shepherd and we are His sheep, but He emphasizes 'many will try to steal away your Life, but He has come to give Life and give it more abundantly.'

Paul's gospel in a verse (Philipians 3:10) tells us to:
Know THE PERSON, experience THE POWER, fellowship in THE PASSION and conform to HIS DEATH. (Gal.2:20)
Jesus said, 'Live for me and I'll live through you!'
Hindrances to this are primarily: ignorance of the Bible and the Holy Spirit; lack of faith; not being yielded to Him and being disobedient.

4) THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WHERE WE ARE LED: (Romans 8: 14-16)
These verses emphasize that 'as many as are led by the Spirit, these ARE the sons of God'.
Many people wonder, 'am I saved?' The key here is, 'are you led by the Holy Spirit?"
I don't mean 'perfection', but 'progress' in doing so or in being led.

I like the example of our lives being like a glove.....no life...nothing happening; but then, a hand goes into the glove and the wisdom and power of the person fills the glove. Verse 15 speaks of personal relationship and fellowship with Christ and I love that we are children of God and can call God, 'Abba' (Daddy).

5) THE HOLY SPIRIT TELLS US TO TAKE THE LONG LOOK: (Romans 8:!7-25)
It emphasizes that we are 'heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ'. I don't fully understand this, but it sure sounds GOOD to me! However, verse 18 says: 'I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.'
Verses 19-25 speak of expectation, hope and redemption.
As Psalm 46 says: 'God is our present Help and our Eternal Hope'.

6) THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WHERE LOVE LASTS: (Romans 8:26-39)
Verses 26 and 27: This kind of love will keep on praying for it speaks of 'groanings' that the Spirit takes to the Father.

This comes in handy for the older we get, the more 'groanings' we have. Just this morning I said, 'I feel my age today', but I try to concentrate on His unlimited love and not MY limitations. There is a LIFT here, like that which we can get from no other.

Some say, 'I have no visible means of support'....but we have great invisible means of support that issues into visible positives and actions! Truly, faith sees the invisible...believes the incredible....and receives the impossible.

Verses 28 and 29: 'All things work together for good, to them that love God and are the called according to His purpose, for whom He did foreknow, He did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn of many brethren.'

Verses 30 - 39 is too deep and precious for the space which we have left. Another time for that, but we can not add to the majesty of these 10 verses, so please read, believe and practice them!

CONCLUSION:
In order for all of this to work, and 'fruit of the Spirit to happen', there must be a LONGING.

As the song by Dick and Bo Baker says:
"I have a longing in my heart for Jesus,
just to be near Him, to feel His presence...
I have a longing in my heart for Him."

There are so many things which people long for today and in a quest for these things, many miss out on Jesus.
Please don't miss fellowship with Him and the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit longs to reveal to you the deeper things of God.
He longs to LOVE through you...
WORK through you...
and to be your STRENGTH for every duty...
WISDOM for every problem....
COMFORT in every sorrow....
and JOY in His overflowing service.

The question is not so much 'Do you have the Holy Spirit?'
.....but 'does the Holy Spirit have YOU'?

If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW

Bro. Travis, As usual great words of wisdom. With your permission I would like to use your outline for series of messages I'm working on about the Holy Spirit. Thank you for your continued service to the Lord.

Dear Travis, as I read this there were tears in my eyes, for God allowed me to see your heart! What a beautiful heart that you have, and it is obvious that the fullness of the Spirit dwells there. ("reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.") "The GLORY to be revealed IN US!" Just hold on Travis, we are almost THERE! (John 17:22-And THE GLORY which You gave Me I have given THEM, that they may be ONE just as WE are ONE. (23) --that the WORLD may know that YOU have SENT ME, and HAVE LOVED THEM as YOU HAVE LOVED ME. The world is going TO KNOW THROUGH US Travis, through YOU! Love, Sharon
