The halls of my high school
crowded by nameless faces,
and as I pass by, I look in their eyes
for simple signs or traces.
And I hear them crying out,
their eyes reveal the fact
that the true person inside
is just hiding behind a happy mask.

The eyes of a young man
dulled by life's monotony,
reveal a soul apart from the whole
pleading softly "come to me."
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one feel his sorrow?
His life just goes from day to day
with no hope for his tomorrow.

The eyes of a lovely youth,
violated and abused,
reveal a child no longer mild
crying now because she was used.
Can no one hear her cry for help?
Can no one see her tears?
Because she gave herself away,
she's lost her teenage years.

The eyes of the high school beau
sparkling like gems yet dim,
reveal the paste behind the face
the reason they glorify him.
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one sense his longing?
He wants to be more than just a face,
he needs to be belonging.

The eyes of an academic scholar
clouded by excessive knowledge,
reveal a mind not so inclined
to spend ten years in college.
Can no one hear her cry for help?
Does no one know her fight?
Stressed by expectations of perfection,
and cries herself to sleep at night.

The eyes of the football star
mischievous and attentive,
reveal the thirst to always be first
and of second best, preventive.
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one hear his plea?
Perfectionism wearies the body,
the soul strives to be free.

The eyes of an experienced teacher
well-worn by crushed hopes and dreams,
reveal a heart that's been torn apart
because things are not what they seem.
Can no one hear her cry for help?
Can no one see her broken spirit?
Aspired to teach bright young minds,
but they don't want to hear it.

The eyes of the spunky cheerleader
deeper than they appear,
reveal insight of common might
there's more than blondness here.
Can no one hear her cry for help?
Does no one know there's more?
She needs someone to see beyond
what everyone else looks for.

The eyes of the violinist
perceptive and refined,
reveal the sounds of pain he's found
the symphony of his mind.
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one hear him playing?
"Stop this pain and hear my cry"
is what his instrument's saying.

The eyes of the high school gossip
craving such attention,
reveal a voice that by her choice
is why she gets a mention.
Can no one hear her cry for help?
Can no one read her words?
Spreading lies is the only way
she knows how to be heard.

The eyes of the proverbial bookworm
darting from line to line,
reveal the thought that he is caught
somewhere in another time.
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one hear his pleading?
He wants to make something of his life
just like all the books he's reading.

The eyes of the chorus soprano
dream-like and airy,
reveal a song that's not too long
and sing how life is scary.
Can no one hear her cry for help?
Is no one out there listening?
Her dreams of a peaceful life
are a dying hope barely glistening.

The eyes of a teacher man
new to this career,
reveal a clue that he always knew
there wasn't much to do here.
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one offer hope?
He longs to see a promising sign
that school is more than hate and dope.

The eyes of the tough gang member
fearful of tomorrow,
reveal the fright of every night
when more precious time he borrows.
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one hear his shouts?
Trapped in a life he doesn't really want,
but ever so fearful to get out.

The eyes of the clarinet player
full of musical spirit,
reveal a melody once said to be
calming to all who hear it.
Can no one hear her cry for help?
Does no one really care?
Her music misses the essential
and floats aimlessly out there.

The eyes of an R.O.T.C. officer
strict and commanding,
reveal hopes sank for higher rank
he feels he's not outstanding.
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one feel the pressure?
Hard on himself and lacks self-esteem,
he can't see what he's on earth for.

The eyes of the sensitive girl
masked behind her make-up,
reveal a self put on the shelf
every day when she wakes up.
Can no one hear her cry for help?
Can no one sense her despair?
She thinks she must always be prettier,
wear the right clothes, have perfect hair.

The eyes of the dramatic
always play the fool
reveal he's lost and at all cost
he's never himself at school.
Can no one hear his cry for help?
Can no one see past the disguise?
He's weary from just playing the part
of the normal, the clown, the wise.

The eyes of every student
roaming through this place,
reveal a need and a plead
to fill up an empty space.
Can no one hear their cries for help?
Does no one know the cure?
People hurting, people crying,
people always longing for more.

The eyes of the fulfilled student
caring beyond any measure,
reveal a love that goes above
any worldly treasure.
He can hear their cries for help.
He has the cure inside.
He offers a hand and takes them to
his Friend who for them died.

The eyes of the Friend
while hanging on a cross,
reveal the truth and give proof
that only He can save the lost.
He has heard their cries for help.
He is the only cure.
With his great love He came and died
then rose again to give us more.
