I wrote this when struggling with a particular sin, noting the irony in my knowledge of God's freedom, yet subsequent choices to remain enslaved.
Shackled and bound by my own sin
As I strive for freedom
Seek it like a lost treasure
Yet each and everyday I return
Return to the cell
And lock myself up
Remain there as if without hope
Sulk and sink to the corner in shame
Dejected and defeated
The key to freedom lies in my hand
I stare and ponder
Realizing its power
Power to free
To truly release me from bondage
But do nothing
Foolishly toss it aside and tighten my chains
In a dark and lonely chamber
I wage war in my thoughts
My choices and actions fall prey to lies
And I stare at the key
The key to free and release
But realize I
I cannot turn the key
Only He whose spirit sets free
